Its right on flatbush, not too expensive, nice to work with.

The vets do change there (some kind of rotation) - I think I've dealt with 3 different ones but usually Isaacson.

I went to Park Slope Veterinary Care on 413 5th ave when my cat was sick and I was pleased with their service, prices, and care. I loved that they work with you regarding payment schedules and they did not push any test or procedure that was unnecessary (or I couldn't afford at the time!)They seemed honest.

This gives you a set of places to call and ask about their rates for basic shots, philosophy of care, etc.this ot only gets you $$ infomatioln but lets you assess the front office personnel. Any day can be difficult in a vet office, but calm, knowledgeable desk staff who have been there a long time are one indication of a good practice. Now you have more info and can make an informed choice.
We are lucky in Brooklyn as the big vet chains like Banfield have not yet moved in. Most practices are still run by the vets who works there, not a corporation.

I went there with two cats under emergency conditions. The vet was wonderful, thorough, and did what she need to do under the cirucmstances, i.e. hydrate them and give them antiobiotics. Very pleased with the immediate attention and realistic diagnosis and care.

I do think they are more pricey in general and pushy more meds and treatments but are good for minor emergencies with their extended hours. I've had friends take their dogs there after hours for stitches and they said it was fine for that.

Maybe we need to start a new thread on emergency animal clinics . The old one might be too outdated. I have my regular vet, but in case of some late night emergency, it's good to have some hospital numbers and addresses in your phone.

My 18 year old siamese has been given lots of TLC there and excellent care. His primary is Dr Quim, but I have also dealt with Dr. Holloway. Dr. Quim is so sweet and is willing to spend time explaining everything, discussing options, etc. The place is very low key, you and your pet are more than a number. The vet techs are truly gentle, kind and competent.

We are lucky in Park Slope that we have a choice of good vet care. Animal Kind is more high tech and high volume, multiple vets are there with some turnover so you may have to work a little harder to build a relationship with a vet if this is important to you.

I have not used Dr. Parker and Dr. Maddon (Maddox?) on 5th
Ave near 8th St, but I have friends that think they are good.

The techs and vets all seem to love animals and the vets are not prone to overkill, as others here seem to be. They don't push every vaccine available and are happy to discuss them with you.

I take my dog there and he's never had any major problems but I've really liked their approach.

I have friends who like Hope and One Love (both on Atlantic) and I think they might have longer hours than PPAC.

When Animal Kind "suggested" that they pull all of Brunos baby teeth while he was being neutered (at 4 months) because sometimes "small breeds have trouble with their baby teeth" I opted to give PPAC a shot. I'm glad I did.
Another reason I chose PPAC was because they accept Muffins Certificates, which are low-cost spay/neuter vouchers. They sell them at NYCPets. Animal kind quoted me almost $700 to neuter and pull all of Brunos teeth. I ended up having him neutered and microchipped at PPAC for under $100 with the cert, and all his baby teeth fell out by 7 months.
http://www.muffins.org/spay.htm

For grooming, I've always taken him to see Steve at Paws in Paradise on 5th ave and 7th st. I ONLY see Steve and he does a GREAT job. Bruno always comes back looking fluffy and happy and not shaved to the skin.

Good luck!
