If you can share this info and help us find a foster home for this adorable sweet cat, please contact me. This cat is going to the vet today and getting fully checked.

This cat approached us at 4:30 in the morning in front of our building on St. Johns Place. S/he followed us without any hesitation into our lobby and up the stairs. The cat is extremely friendly and is already sitting on my lap. I would guess it's about 6 months old. Would anyone be able to foster it until we can find it a home? Our cats are going crazy.

Female kittens can be fixed as young as 8wks or 2lbs in weight. Once the mother is through nursing she should also be fixed. The kittens can get their first FVRCP jabs at 8wks of age but they may want to wait to give them their rabies jabs, depends on the vet.

Please do not adopt them out without charging at least a nominal fee as this will attract bunchers, dealers, collectors and gift givers who think a kitten is a fun present but do not understand the lifelong commitment required. $25 minimum but if they have seen a vet, who will usually charge a discount for a group of kittens, $50 is acceptable.

If you would like information on low cost vets in your area let me know.

Generally it is better to adopt kittens this young in pairs or to another home with a young, playful, friendly animal (cat or dog). Introducing a kitten into a home with an older animal can cause quite a bit of stress to that senior animal as the kitten will want to play constantly and that stress can lead to illness down the road (been there done that).

As they are so young they will still need socialization to learn not to do some of the strange behaviors people complain about with single cats who are not raised with other cats. Such as climbing up their legs, pouncing on their heads, biting, suckling, etc. They learn not to do these things from other cats; for as much as one might love them we are not cats and cannot teach appropriate behavior the way another cat can. This is why adopting in pairs or with another young animal is preferential to the long term well being of the kitten and the success of the future adoption.

Lastly should an adoption not work out be prepared to take the kitten back, even up to a year later as some people love them when they are little but once they are older suddenly they are too much work or life circumstances change and they cannot keep them as they did not think long term when adopting. Make sure anyone you adopt to understand this or these kittens may wind up in the city shelter where they have little to no chance of adoption.

She would always be there alone, at night... my roommate and I fed her for several months, and when it started getting colder, and hurricane Sandy was approaching, we finally took her in. She turned out to be the smartest and nicest cat I have ever met, and.. pregnant! She gave birth to 4 beautiful kitties. They are now 6 weeks old. And though they are so cute and smart, we can not keep them in our small apartment. We are keeping mom cat of course. One kitten has already been adopted by my friend. And 3 girls left. They are looking for a good loving home, they will bring you a lot of joy!

This kitty is also playful, plus she is very very smart. She was the first to learn how to go to a litter box. And then showed her sisters how to. I bet you can teach her some tricks.
We are moving to Asia and have made this difficult decision based on two reasons: (1) long flight/quarantine rules (2) toddler with cat allergy. She will be great for a family with older kids but must be the only cat in the household.

And the very good news is, he has a new home! He is with a wonderful woman who saw this post on brooklynian. He slept next to her last night and woke her bright-and-early this morning. He's affectionate and sweet, and has made himself comfortable in his new home (where I suspect he will be spoiled). I will post a picture that his new mom sent soon, with an update.

Hi, I’m Matt! I’m so happy to meet you!

I was abandoned on the streets of Bed Stuy, so sad and lonely I could cry. After weeks I was desperately hungry and my fur got matted so badly it hurt.

But I’m an optimist! I kept hoping one day someone would give me a second chance… I was extra friendly to everyone passing on the sidewalk and finally someone took me in! They fed me! And better yet, they snuggled and played with me!

Now I really need a permanent, stable, loving, accepting, forever-home.

I find having my neck scratched irresistible and my hobbies are snuggling, being curious, and playing. I’m affectionate, friendly, adventurous, fun-loving, super-smart, and, quite frankly, adorable! Just look at my whiskers and my fluffy tail! The humans had to shave some of my matted fur but that’s okay – I’m easygoing and I know it’ll grow back better than ever!

I just keep hoping I’ll find a loving family soon… Won’t you please consider adopting me? C’mon – email the humans, meet me, take me home, love me, and snuggle me!

Matt is small, less than a year old, neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, negative for FIV and FeLV.

URGENT SITUATION - PLEASE CROSSPOST
A woman in Elmhurst, Queens, has been caring for 150-200 cats outside for the past couple of years. She is moving out of state in a couple weeks and has been trying, unsuccessfully, to find new caretakers for her colonies and rescues for the many kittens. She has done TNR in the area but did not have the means to get the situation under control. Scores of cats left behind in her colonies will most likely die without a new caretaker.
Knowing that she would be moving, she took in 30-plus kittens from the colonies because she did not want them to die on the street, however, to complicate matters even further, she is being evicted from her home. The Marshall is coming Friday and she will be locked out. Thirty kittens, ages 2-3 months-old and friendly, will be put back out on the street by the caretaker or taken to Animal Care and Control by the Marshall if not rescued before Friday, June 22, 2012.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

If you are a rescuer with space, you can take in a litter of kittens.
If you are a foster, you can contact your rescue to offer fostering for as many of these kittens as you have room for.
If you live in the Elmhurst area, you can take over the feeding of one or more colony.
If you have money, you can donate to one of the rescues coordinating efforts to assist in this situation.
If you have any or none of the above, you can share this post with others to spread the word as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence!

We are now at capacity and cannot continue to rescue any more kitties due to the massive amount of kittens we have gotten in this kitten season and the lack of adoptions in the last month. I would beg anyone who can to foster or adopt so that we can continue to rescue as there are several more litters of kittens and several adults we are aware of who are in need of rescue that we can not help until we bring our numbers down.

To Adopt or Foster contact us at (212) 567-5206 or (646) 675-0082, or email us at cmoon7@nyc.rr.com

If you cannot adopt or foster share this message with NYC area friends and get the word out!

We have dozens of young motherless kittens, short-hairs, long-hairs, all colors and all ready to be adopted into loving forever homes.

We do ask with young kittens that they go into a home that either already has another young pet (kitty or doggie) to be a playmate and companion or that one adopt two kitties together as they do really NEED each other for socialization, companionship and play!

Looks like I struck a nerve, which would be good, if you hadn't missed the larger point. Oh well. And by the way, that wasn't me condescending (although I can condescend with the best of them), that was me being honest and pointed.

You really must have an axe to grind. Do you look for deep meaningful sub-text in everything you read? Sounds like you do. I should have said my ‘human’ neighbors I suppose so as not to give away my obviously evil intentions. They are neighbors of mine and they happen to be Chinese, but I obviously didn’t fool you oh no. You are far too wise for me. You appear to have figured me out completely by my unwitting use of the word ‘Chinese’. I think you should work for the FBI – they employ people like you who can get to the bottom of things. But I say ‘Good for you!’ Unfortunately I don’t have prize to give you but I hope you enjoy many hours of reading things into people’s comments and getting away from the point – which is the emotional abuse of an ‘Chin….!’ Animal. Whoops! Look at that, I nearly did it again. Look at me, I just can’t help myself. Perhaps you too should be more thoughtful, especially when assigning the ‘racist’ tag – which is what you have done – and stop being a know-it-all. Oh, and I’m glad you laughed out loud. Sorry that’s ‘LOL’. How very condescending of you.
