I'm looking to find a place to live closer to the Brooklyn music scene (I'm currently in St. Albans, Queens).

I'm an easy going straight male who doesn't drink, use recreational drugs, or smoke anything, so I prefer housemates without chronic substance-abuse problems, although sensible drinking is okay with me. I also eat sensibly and try to stick to a healthy lifestyle.

It would be nice to live with other musicians or creative types, or at least with people who appreciate music and the creatives. I am in search of a communal situation (the more people, the cheaper, hopefully), a barter situation, a barter for reduced rent, or just the traditional roommate or housemate arrangement if the price is right. I can't do heavy construction work or a lot of heavy lifting, but I enjoy doing moderate indoor and outdoor manual labor.

Please let me know if you're interested!

I don’t know how far-fetched this will sound, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try… My name is Simone and the pictures are of my dog Stella. Stella is a pitbull mix that I adopted 9 years ago. When I found her, she was on “death row” at the ACC, and was going to be put down the following day due to her chronic skin allergies and her having “cherry eye” (a condition where her tear glands are exposed; a condition most common in hounds). Though she was a mess physically, she was so sweet and good-natured that I decided that despite her health issues, I would take her in. That was probably the best decision I ever made!

Since then, Stella has helped me foster, housebreak and train numerous other animals in need. We’ve taken in and found homes for dogs, cats and even a rabbit! …Both independently and through organizations like BARC.

But now that Stella is getting older, her cherry eyes are becoming more and more of an issue. Though I have been treating her with drops and such her whole life, I could never afford the surgery required to tuck her glands back in (which costs anywhere from $800-$1,000) and which she needs now more than ever if she is going to retain her vision and live without discomfort. As I’m currently a graduate student, spare funds are simply not at my disposal. SO, after reading an article where a restaurant owner could not afford dental care for his family, and instead he bartered with his dentist--- offering free meals to the dentist and his family anytime--- I thought I could perhaps offer my own barter proposal.

Prior to, and throughout college, I have worked as a tutor (mostly in reading/writing and in SAT prep but occasionally math as well). Now that I am close to being a certified teacher through my graduate studies and/or through the NYC Teaching Fellows (with whom I am interviewing with next week) I thought to my tutoring abilities as my greatest bartering asset. Hence, my proposal would be that in exchange for paying for Stella’s surgery, I could help your child with any area they needed assistance with academically.

I know this sounds strange, but if you knew me, you’d probably understand that aside from being an animal nut (totally guilty), I’m a far from crazy, kind, intelligent individual who ten minutes ago thought, why not?

If you’re interested in discussing this, please email me (as I’m currently in finals this week and thus, a bit busy). After next week, however, I will be off from school until late January so I’ll have plenty of time to avail myself! ☺

Thanks for reading,
Simone
