What color was the jacket?

What color was the hat?

Which knee of his pants was ripped?

What color were the shoes?

....when time passes, such indicators are lost. The suspect is also no longer physically near the location of the crime.

Often I talk to people who got mugged the night before and then wonder why the police dont care, well its because they have practically no chance to catch the perp or see him on the street because its another day and the evidence is gone with no chance for an arrest. But still its important for crime stats, to let the police know this is going on.

I simply point out of the many people I have met who are hesitant to report things to police, the number 1 reason is stated above.

The #2 reason seems to be that they feel stupid as result of being victimized.

The #3 reason is that they would like the experience to be over, and talking to the police would extend it.

# 4: They don't think the police will do anything.

Please note, the above study has not been peer reviewed, the sample size is small, and rigorous methods were not used to record the data.

Also, a sampling bias is inherent in the fact that I did not include persons who are not hesitant to report crimes to the police.

So this is typical behavior when reporting crimes then huh? My fiance was inappropriately groped at a massage place on 7th ave in Park Slope. To make a long story short, we both left feeling like our first ever trip to report something to the police was the WRONG thing to do, even if we knew it was supposed to be right. Just our experience.

I have. You can also attend community police meetings, for what they're worth. But it's important t be a squeaky wheel.

These have even occurred in broad daylight. Obviously, this is very concerning for everyone in the community, and likely especially for women walking alone.

So...Wanting to pass the information along so that the community can be as safe and aware as possible...but also wondering if folks might have some ideas about what might be possible in order to get some regular police-presence /foot-patrol on Classon where there are fewer businesses (and therefore fewer eyes monitoring the street activities), and therefore where robbers apparently feel they are less likely to be seen and caught victimizing someone.

Below are a couple of the links to the recent stories noted by the PHP, and each of these also provides a bit of information on other recent similarly unfortunate street-robbery events nearby. (Note to Moderator: Perhaps it would be helpful if this information could also be posted to the Prospect Heights forum, as these crimes are happening in both of the adjoining neighborhoods.)
