After working and investigating the individual journey within a large community of performers for so many years, Mariangela López is going back to her own body as an attempt to understand her own ideas from her own physicality and inner world. She is using the power of the group as a catalytic energy that will guide her through this voyage. In this process she is transposing the relationship of the group and herself; how can they be present in the solo performer? How can she become a vehicle and a mirror of their own dreams and ultimately find the ritual that allows total exposure to achieve body/mind emancipation?

From Obama to Occupy: Works of Outrage from 2008-2012 is a sequel to the 2009 hit show, Requiem for W, Overture for O: Works of Conscience from 2000-2008. Even before we knew the outcome of the 2012 election, there was a vital need to reflect on how artists had responded to Obama and the political events of the past four years. Obama’s election highlighted racial discourse in various ways: contentious debates about a “post-racial society”, racist attacks by the Right, conflicting and ambivalent responses from the Left, and the differing emotions, expectations, achievements, and disappointments that his term has had for white people and people of color. From Obama to Occupy: Works of Outrage from 2008-2012 generates a space for art to be a powerful platform to engage deeply with the contradictions and questions that Obama’s presidency has raised.

The audience engages with the artists as they open the doors to their rehearsal practice. This journey continues with the Works-in Progress Series in January, and culminates in the Spring performances. This is a rare opportunity to follow a work and engage its creators from the early stages through to full productions.

We developed this series to further BAX’s core mission of supporting arts and artists in progress. To us, the journey from the initial idea to the premiere of a work is as important as the work itself. We are inviting the public to see the works of our Artists-in-Residence and Space Grant recipients as it is being created and developed.

Opening the doors to the various stages of a work’s development and sharing the journey deepens the relationships between the work, the artist and the audience. Open Studio Showings include a moderated question-and-answer period where the audience’s observations and the artist’s intentions are explored.

Nothing Lasts Forever, Nothing is Lost Forever allows us to observe how environment, mythos, and our premonitions of the future culminate in a self-fulfilling prophecy of self-destruction. With an original score by Trevor Wilson, costume and production design by Heather Freedman, and set design by Freedman, Greg Kozatek, and George Hoffman, this evening-length collaboration crosses multiple artistic boundaries, incorporating sound design, and installation, into a truly immersive performance event.

Piper Theatre presents a little Gothic horror to put a chill in the night air! "The Island of Dr. Moreau" sends up enough Victorian-style shivers to keep audiences on the edge of their lawn chairs, for this mystical and savage tale of science run amok. Piper's original adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel uses physical storytelling to heighten "Moreau”’s sense of otherworldly spookiness - as if a mad doctor, a mysterious island and strange beasts (or so they appear) weren't enough. All ages welcome.
