Is your grammar garbled or your vocabulary vexed? Learn to make your writing say what you want it to say, without these common issues getting in the way. I offer personalized, one-on-one advice for students and professionals who want to develop writing that is clear and dynamic. I can also coach on how to tackle the SAT Critical Reading and Writing sections.

I'll help you gain valuable skills you can use in any text: how to grab the reader's attention; how to convey complex ideas; how to integrate personal narrative with academic or professional information; how to avoid grammar pitfalls and how to use appropriate style; when to enrich your vocabulary and sentence structure, and when to keep it simple. Plus, you'll develop reading and editing abilities you can employ for the rest of your academic or professional career.

I'm a twenty-eight-year-old professional writer, researcher, essayist and NYU graduate. My work has been published in the Best American Travel Writing Series, The Believer, n+1, and Vice Magazine.

Classes can be held at your home, office, or another location of your choosing.

Sense Writing is a pragmatic and innovative approach to writing for artists, performers, writers, and anyone looking to find new dimensions to their work, overcome ineffective creative habits -- and make more art.

A one-day workshop at The Old Stone House dedicated to exploring new ways of creating work. You will use your own life stories to develop a personalized connection to the craft of writing.

- Fully inhabit the world of your writing through the senses
- Investigate and refine the link between simple physical patterning, expanded imagination, and craft.
- Complete one to two short pieces about your life.

Because the focus of the workshop is on what is felt and "tangible" rather than abstract ideas of "good writing," writers of all levels and genres learn to find pleasure in all the stages of the craft.
February 10
10:00-4:00
$150

Madelyn Kent has served on the faculty of NYU/Tisch teaching playwriting, screenwriting, and memoir writing.
