They want clothing and blankets, sheets, towels etc. Handbags, totebags, shoes anything that is wearable. Even used socks if they are in pairs. No books or household items. They can't compete with the insiders, of course - the janitorial staff who drop off a few select bags of 'garbage' in a special spot, and then dispatch friends who come walking up the sidewalk a few minutes later, grab said bags without so much as a second look, and walk away.  (Might be the same staff who just got off their shift and changed into their civvies.)  Don't know if those contain clothes, or food, or other goodies. Seasonal items are really what helps if you have it. So coats, sweatshirts, boots, gloves, etc are great right now. The people there can't even afford the prices at Salvation army. I've done over and over again. They'll be so much more thankful for you donation and you never know; your donation may be the highlight of someone's day.
