Hey, just moved to Brooklyn from Austin, TX and wanna get in the dating scene, but I haven't found a good dork bar/cafe/hangout/etc. Where should I go? I live in Park Slope.

The hipster chicks in Williamsburg would LOVE a dork from Austin. Kind of a trek from PS, but then, it'll be a good way for you to get to know the city.

Actually I think I'm too awkward/dorky for Williamsburg hipster girls, those girls usually have high standards for awkward/dorkiness if you know what I mean.

um, Franklin Park has a monthly reading series.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

This city is impossible to meet anyone really. There are lots of bars in stuff to hang out in Park Slope. I personally like the Tea Lounge a lot.

I'm kind of scratching my head as to why you would move here from Austin. That is one of the best places for up and coming single scene.

I guess when New York calls, then you go, but geez in my experience once you get here, you plot how to escape.

Not all it's cracked up to be. Just my two cents.

Being from CO I hate Texans, but I see a ton of dorks at bars in PS. Not sure that's the best way to meet people, but it's a start. Maybe find a group that combines your interests. For example my interests are food and alcohol so I participate in local cooking competitions (3rd place judges choice at the last one!). Also maybe trivia nights? Many bars have them and the winners are always attractive due to their brains.

Launch Pad on Franklin Avenue always has events that are social -- I am a very awkward social person yet I've joined a book club and made some friends there. They also do lots of movie screenings, yoga classes, sewing time where you can just hang out and use the machines, or even just "open" time where you can go and meet people and use the free wifi and whatnot.

Also maybe join a CSA. They do get-togethers and you'll meet people while working your shifts.
