For various reasons I'm embroiled in a paradoxical situation where I have NYS insurance but an out-of-state license. I can't get a new license easily because I'm waiting for the social security office to mail me a new card, but I need to register a new car I bought in the meanwhile.

Anyone know what's required to register a vehicle in New York with an out of state license?

I recommend you contact Shloime Ascher 718 493 0600 x210 at MV Express, a in house motor vehicle center in Crown Heights.

Thanks. It turns out it's no problem to register in New York. You don't need a NYS driver's license.

You do have to pay county and state tax on whatever they tell you the value of your car is (regardless of what you paid for it) -- ouch.
