Things that make you go hmmm... or some other reaction I can't convey. If Dick Cheney's right hand man Scooter Libby is convicted of lying to federal investigators, it's nice to know he's got a literary career to fall back on. In 1996 Scooter wrote a novel, The Apprentice. Set in a remote Japanese province in 1903, the book tells the tale of Setsuo, a virgin innkeeper. And just as you'd expect from a right-wing conservative... it's full of weirdo sex scenes and swearing. Young girls get raped by bears, or shagged by their uncles, and people have sex with deer. Here's a taster: "At age ten the madam put the child in a cage with a bear trained to couple with young girls so the girls would be frigid and not fall in love with their patrons. They fed her through the bars and aroused the bear with a stick when it seemed to lose interest." More: http://www.newyorker.com/talk/content/articles/051107ta_talk_collins

Stupider than he really is, if the shoe fits. Getting a little head from the intern is so mainstream degenerate... this is wacky. -
Wow! What a tidbit.

Isn't the right-wing dirty novel kind of a tradition? I thought Newt Gingrich wrote one too. Or Trent Lott, or somebody like that. I bet they all did. (This one sounds particularly insane.)"Now if every newspaper editor had to deal with a reader like Emily, boy, would they think twice, or three times." --greg
