Greetings all-- my brother wants a vacuum for Christmas. I've had quite a few as have a number
of friends and there aren't many glowing reports. Anyone out there happy with the vacuum they
have and willing to share their thoughts? Appreciate any input anyone is willing to share.
Thanks all.

I've gone through several $50 Eurekas (Maybe $60 now). They eventually suck themselves to death with all the dog hair and drywall screws in the shag. Not much of a gift, no HEPA this HEPA that but beats buying a Dyson for mucho money. I also have 3 Rigid shop vacs, one has a removable motor/blower that lets you put it over your shoulder to blow the leaves and dogshit away. Comes with a snappy shoulder strap.

I haven't used my Shop Vac since the Roomba entered my household. I can recommend both but the Roomba does the work for you if you don't feel like doing anything for a while.

Miele Carina $250 great vac!

Reggi, you need to be more specific. Does your bro have all woods floors? -you'll need a vac that is designed for bare floors. Full carpeting? Stairs? Does he need many hose attachments for varied cleaning? Or just a strong simple stick vac (or roomba)
I've actually been looking for something I can lug up and down the stairs, that is really light weight/for wood floors/with a hose attachment (cord or cordless). Any recs out there?
I like this one a lot (windtunnel technology!) but it doesn't have a hose attachment.... ideas?

Its hard to find lightweight and good sucking power. I'm with Christina and Modsquad. A shopvac if he's got animals, heavy duty stuff, multiple floor types or varied needs and has needs for shopvac's additional uses (blowing leaves and sucking up water being the two I am most excited about) and a Roomba if he is more of an apartment with one pet kind of guy.

It comes in stainless steel too. Looks very hot when you wear a silver unitard. -
Hey all: Thanks for the recommendations. Mama, I have a vacuum that I like very much it is the
bissell momentum it's an upright bagless with a nice long cord and on board tools. I would get
this for my brother but it doesn't offer on/off brush and my brother is a real guy and I think he may
burn it out. This may be a good choice for you if you're looking at hoovers. It has many
reviews you can check out at target and amazon and you can't beat the price it's around a hundred bucks
I'd suggest you check it out as we're happy with ours and problem free for over two years.
His needs are bare floors and medium carpet pile - a few plushier area rugs. I think my vacuum would
be great for him but just not sure.
Thanks all, for the help and input. My brother wouldn't know what to do with a shop vac! He's a
retired teacher and his only tools were chalk and school supplies!Me & Charley Booger Brown -
We have the 5 yr old version of this: http://bit.ly/fXkucA It's a Dyson canister, great with animal hair (we live in a fur factory) and hardwood floors as well. It has a washable hepa filter thingie. We have a three floor house and this thing has taken a beating with no problems. It's pretty lightweight and doesn't need a lot of room to store it.
Take the u out of neighbour. -
a couple of years ago i bought a yellow pet eraser vacuum at sears for about $200 and with exception of the belt constantly needing replacement its been good. Im under a constant state of rennovation here and its survuved screws and hunks of plaster. I also have three dogs and two cats. I believe its a Eureka
they sell something similar at Lowes
