Have you ever been to the bar/lounge called Artland? It's on Grand Street in Williamsburg. All I can say is, "W.T.F???"

The bouncer lady frightened me, although I do have to give her credit for being friendly. She is very very tall. She was petting a short guy who was hugging her leg. Her T-Shirt said "Do you want to die?"

She seemed to be at least 6'2 and quite buff/fluffy and the guy seemed to be about 5'5 or so. It was hard to tell because he was sitting on a bench, but he had to stretch to hug around her leg.

They have Pabst beer there and not much else.

Their site makes it seem like they have live bands on certain evenings... Could be interesting.

nothin wrong with PBR, as long as it's cheap and not effin' $4 like at Trash. now $3 for a tall boy at Bushwick Country Club, that's whats up.

Hm, I think it was $4 for the PBR.

Funny story: My friends and I sat down once we got into the bar to try and collect our bearings and try to figure out how long we were going to stay. The bartender looked over at us and told us they don't have table service!! Really, because I figured such a classy place would...

definitely sounds like i won't be checking it out any time soon. $4 for pabst is just downright disrespectful.

There's not much going on there. It's kind of an odd spot. I'm all about locals, but there's a few strange ones that drink at this bar.

You're better off across the street at the Bushwick Country Club.

I've been to Art Land once, because my pool team played there. Really found nothing at all notable about it one way or another. Of course, that was a Tuesday night with not many customers on hand other than the two pool teams, but nothing strange, nothing especially cool, nothing that would provoke that "W.T.F???" from the first post. Nothing that made me want to go back; nothing that made me want to stay away.

i can appreciate the happy hour til 9 but if that still is only bringing beers down to what i'd pay at regular hours elsewhere, meh.

Happy hour til 9 is OK, but still gets beaten by a couple of locals that run it til 10!

While I do like that a lot of places that didn't even have happy hour before now are doing it (thanks, bad economy!), ending it at 8 is just lame. Because I'm usually not home from work yet.

or you can just go to places where beers are always $2

or those glorious locales that feature 32oz styorfoam cups for $3.50. these are prices i likes.

Heading out to one tonight, because a friend's band is playing there: Tommy's Tavern on Manhattan at Freeman. The show should start around 10, which will leave a couple of "happy hour" hours before then. Really beats stuff like the Trash Bar setup where they end the "open bar" hour an hour before the first band starts, then start charging $4 for a PBR.

Which is one of the biggest crimes ever commited. PBR is $4 on draft at effin Mercury Lounge. I really just don't like Trash. Tommy's on the other hand is legit and often have awesome shows. Great place to hang out at. And the $2 Schaefer is a good friend.

One other plus at Tommy's: they really don't pay much attention to the clock. The happy hour specials supposedly end at 10, but if you've been there and bought a couple of rounds by then (and tipping probably wouldn't hurt) you'll probably still get that price as long as you stay -- at least for the "shot and a beer" specials ($5 or $6 depending on what you want with your Schaefer, Jameson's is $6 but Jack or Jim is $5).

That would be a negative on ever goin to Black Betty but I've walked past it about 9-10million times en route from Levee to Bushwick Country Club. I'll make it in one day. I need to get at least one of my bands playin some damn shows again. Preferably the one that usually gets too drunk to even make it through an entire song at rehearsal, then again that's the idea behind that band

its a really small stage, and small room so if you were to bring a drumset in there youd probably break peoples ear drums, all the times weve played there we used a drum machine so as not to cause bloody ears...

but the drink tickets are a plenty and the 30 or so people we brought made the room looked packed, and the bathrooms are the nicest bathrooms ive come across in williamsburg.

I do like me some drink tickets, especially in the quantity of "a plenty". Luckily our drummer is out of town a lot so a little acoustic/electric (i needs my leads) would be fun to play there. As long as people are up for a buncha jerks gettin drunk as hell and covering a buncha macho country songs and a few of our own numbers written from an extreme conservative viewpoint.

Those are some nice bathrooms at Black Betty. My only problem with the place is the narrow room the bar and tables make when it gets crowded. It's a nightmare trying to get through or a drink.

They have a decent bottled beer selection, prices are reasonable but not especially cheap. Unless things have changed since I was last there (sometime during the summer I think), the bargain basement is Miller cans for $3. In bottles, my choice would be Presidente for $4, then they had a few others for $4-$5 and Chimay for $7 if you have the high end taste.

I do enjoy higher end beers but current financial situations makes that only happen here and there (haven't had a good IPA in who knows how long). $3 Miller cans it is!

They do have a happy hour, but I've never been there early so I don't know when that it. And of course there are plenty of places where you can have a good IPA for $3 during happy hour if you can get out that early. Just had a Lagunitas IPA, one of my personal favorites, the other night at Coco66 with that price tag. Happy Hour there goes til 9. Boulevard Tavern on Meeker is another good choice with a good selection and the same "hour" in effect.

I have a hard time getting anywhere that stops at 8 in time. I'm more likely to be out drinking at 3 am than at 8 pm.

Yea that's usually my case as well. I work in NJ til, well whenever the hell I can get outta the office so the earliest I'm back in the area is 8. Uber drag. Boulevard Tavern is around the corner from my house, i love that place. Especially when they have the $5 all you can eat BBQ goin on. Great place to either start off the night, kill off the night, or just spent the night. And their $3 pints of Boulevard house beer is pretty damn good as well.

Yeah! But I have to admit I don't take advantage of it as often as I did when it was $3 until a couple of years ago. Because while a $5 meal isn't bad, there are other places where I can eat for that... but a $3 meal is hard to match, and used to have me there all the time. Of course then I'd spend another $15 to $20 on drinks, but I would have done that somewhere anyway.

$5 really aint the worst, esp considering it all you can eat. Start it off with a burger, dog and corn. Then a few hours/beers later when yer cravin' something, you can just go back for more. Harold is a master of that grill. And I heard the tater tots are back!

Oh yeah, I'm not complaining about the price, just saying that at $3 it was impossible to beat. Boulevard's a little out of the way for me, but a good $3 meal along with good beer would draw me out more often... now at $5, while it's still a deal, other more conveniently located options are competitive.

And yeah, corn's on the summer menu. Tater tots are back. I just ate there last week.

Harold's not just a master of the grill, he's way cool all around. If you're interested in Coney Island history and haven't talked to him about his family background, by the way, be sure to do so!
