Anyone know a reliable IT person/computer helper/someone who can fix my computer in Greenpoint/W'burg? I got a nasty virus!!

Altour (212) 897-5000. Manny is the supervisor and Alfonso ("Al") is the actual guy who comes to our office. Al did a housecall for me in Brooklyn to hook up my work laptop/printer, etc., so I know they can go to Brooklyn. Good luck!

If you can't find anyone locally I could probably do it. I clean that stuff up on computers at work all the time; viruses and spyware that slip past the antivirus programs. They can be found by tracking everything that loads as the computer boots, and removed by manually deleting registry entries and files. Antivirus programs often can't to it because these things are already running active processes and some have "re-load" routines.

Thanks again to both of you. Bleibtreu, that's damn decent of you; I may take you up on it. It's my fault for downloading songs from limewire - I should know better. The internet is running really slow & I'm getting all kinds of popups. The settings (theme & sounds) sometimes change themselves. I downloaded firefox 3 to see if that would help and now no site will allow me to log on with firefox (facebook, yahoo, this site, etc.) I have to use IE.

That Firefox thing is odd on a new installation... if you haven't yet, check under Tools -> Options -> Privacy, and make sure that the checkbox is checked that will allow sites to set cookies. That's the only area I can think of offhand that might cause the problem. And if your work IT guys can't get it all worked out, feel free to send me a PM.
