The correct answer is Pan-Asian Vegan Cuisine. You know, as long as they do a good fake duck, they're alright by me. _________________ I'm A Crafty Primate

Vegan? Yuck. Only a soylent green restaurant could be less appealing.
At least they're next door to Geido so they can suck in harmony.

I kinda hate fake meat. I'd rather have good, old fashioned tofu. give me well flavored and cooked tofu mash on some rice and I'm a happy girl. these fakey places annoy me. maybe because if I want a piece of fried chicken ... I'm gonna get a piece of fried chicken. I guess I'm just not cut out for the vegan thing? _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

or heck, I had this lovely cold, slightly marinated tofu at a japanese place in noho that was delectable. it was creamy and nutty and the marinade was simple - just soy and a dash of sweet rice wine vinegar. it was the perfection of the tofu that was so brilliant. so yeah. no fake meat, AFN wants a bowl of cold, marinaded tofu!!!!!!! _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

oh I love those. I always try to steal enough of my leftover's at franny's back from carnivore (he also consumes his wife's - he's a piglet, too bad about the skinny thing) so I can make an awesome pasta with botarga (sp) and chili flake omelet. yum. I wonder if fake meat from new happy fake place works for that? _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

You know, I bet their fresh sardines would make an excellent omelette. But I'm sure they'd never make if off the table into a doggy bag. _________________ I'm A Crafty Primate

Tao Palate could either be the next Zen Palate (yum), or the next Vegetarian Palate (notsomuch.)
Either way, its a hell of a lot more useful in that location than The Chocolate Monkey or the Wall Lounge.
I must admit that I stole a $1.99 muffin from the Monkey once. when they first opened, i tried to get a cup of coffee there one morning. they had no change and decided to LOCK ME IN while he went across the street for change. i say they had it coming.

wait. you actually LIKE zen palate? the only good part about that joint is the byob/my underage in the us vegetarian harry potter friends from the uk get to drink aspect. otherwise that joint has zero redeeming values in my book. blech.
I mean, seriously - why can't a veggie joint make:
a) a fucking awesome salad
and/or
b) delicious, fresh silken tofu?
this isn't difficult. if I have to figure out how to use my parents wood burning french bread oven and read french guy's recipe AND make the bread ... in ecuador (altitude!) these asshats have an easy job they're getting paid for. _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

I love Zen Palate. First veggie restaurant I ever ate at in my life when I moved to NYC. Love the Sesame Medallions.
I never got to eat at the "upscale" Zen Palate in the back of the 14th street one, though. No clue what that was like.
Never eaten at Gobo either. I'm aware it's supposed to run rings around it.
I'm really looking forward to Zao Palate. I really hope they don't dissapoint. While I like Snice, they only do sandwiches, and the V Spot just isn't enough up to snuff with me. I need something other than the awesome Madre Selva at Bogota when I and the wife need a nicer veggie fix in the hood.

Does anyone have any information on when this will open? Sounds like it will be a nice addition to the neighborhood.

sign me up as unimpressed with zen palate. i've only been once (in midtown/west side), and it was like ten times too many.
honestly. when my tofu is better than yours, you have a problem.
also, "wheat gluten" is not a good menu phrase.
and you may not charge me $18 for an entree with no protein.

Oh man, I am so excited! I love both Zen Palate and Vegetarian Palate so I am psyched to have more Palate-y goodness right in our neighborhood. Seriously, this made my day.

it is just some run-of-the-mill chinese place with bullet-proof glass and all, but the chinese place on the east side of Franklin between Lincoln and St. Johns made a really good seseame bean curd. I move 3 blocks north and can't find cheap tofu anywhere now.
I'm excited for a vegan place, though. Hope they're good..

The basil moo shu roll was ok, as was the curry seitan noodles. I'm with you though. The place wasn't great overall, and if I'm not getting meat or seafood, it had better be cheap.

I am a huge Vegetarian Palate fan, I think others are as well as it's usually faily busy. I always thought zen palate was good and bad depended on what you ordered. Psyched for another Vegan place in the hood....I've been a vegan for 16 years so I'm a little biased. Hope it's good.

I LOVE Zen Palate in the city, and Vegeterian Palate (on Flatbush, that's what it's called, right?) I like a little less -- something about wheat gluten that I just love. And I like their fancy pants spring rolls and other stuff. _________________ I mock you with my monkey pants.

is that what you get at veg palate? I've had the fried chicken and that place by the west fourth street courts (next to the belgian beer bar where I usually cure my vegetarian dinner failure with a brat and/or fries) and it's probably the best faux meat I've ever eaten that isn't the morningstar farms sausage patties. _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

The faux chicken nuggets at Veg Palate taste exactly like the ones from Vegetarian's Paradise 2 and Red Bamboo (the 2 places by the Belgian beer bar), except I think the sauce may even be better. Try them!

Red Bamboo is pretty friggin ridiculous, although nothing beats the seitan at Blossom in Chelsea to me.
My wife and I learned how to make our own seitan last year. While it both tastes amazing and offers you a lot more versatility when you make your own, my lord, what a pain in the ass seitan is to make. You're basically making a dough and kneading the living hell out of it for an hour, then boiling it for two more hours. Wow.

yick! but I have yet to have an awesome seitan dish but have major addiction to tofu. it's very tragic. someone, I'm sure, will tell me where to have something that will make me happy. but I have to say, my comfort foods tend toward the latin and then ... I just want soon doo bu (I can live with or without the seafood addition - just spicy broth with silken tofu is amazing. oh, and we can't forget the egg). _________________ like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

OK, I was passing this place today and asked one of the workers whether I could peek around. He let me grab one of the delivery menus! So here it is, freshly scanned. Your sneak preview of the menu for this not-yet-open restaurant!

I ate there last night and it was really good- nice atmosphere. At least for the moment it is BYOB. The orange seitan was especially tasty.

My wife and I had some takeout from there tonight. It's quite good for what it is. It reminds me of the Zen Palate that used to be at Union Square, as many here have mentioned. There were several people dining-in when I stopped by at 7-8 PM
