Recent building zone changes have taken place in gowanus. If you drive down President between 4th Ave & Nevins St. you will see 3 factories for sale and the huge factory between 4th and 3rd ave has already been sold. The 24 hour dry cleaner on 3rd and Pres has been sold to a developer and is slated to be a hotel or motel of some kind. There is another factory on Union and Nevins for sale. I smell condos instead of the canal for a change. Very Happy

If the developers were smart they'd ask the City to move the oil depot and drain the canal. It would make a beautiful strolling park that you could have week-end fairs/markets in. It would certainly add value to the development. Will they at least keep a few crack ho's so us old timers have a memory lane of Nevins?

Won't quite be as pretty of a picture as you may see it as now. This 197-A plan is nice, but with the Katans and Bowmelgreens in the mix, it ought to be a nightmare for any residents or folks working the area for the next 5-10 years. And then there's the dredging of the canal itself, not slated for a few years I think.

So, you'll be sitting on your balcony overlooking the "Venice of Bklyn" as the barge floats up the canal unearthing God knows what kinda toxic shit into the air. The FROGG folks can tell you more...

I'd stay clear of the condo and the smell if it were me until the chemicals and construction dust clears.

Do visit the GCCDC website, it is an interesting plan. got the full presentation last year at one of the Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Assoc. meetings.
