After all that controversy and the endless haranguing on Brownstoner, the Blimpie's on Lafayette and S Elliot only lasted a year or so; or at least by the looks of it, it seems like it's going out of business. Can't say I'm sad to see it go, although I'm surprised that Bklyn Tech didn't keep it in business. This is the right way for things to work themselves out--not community activists preventing it from opening in the first place, but simply a lack of consumer interest forcing it to close due to poor business. If anyone has the scoop on what's going on there, or if something else is going in, please share.

I have fond memories of the Video Basket, actually...when I first moved to FG (10 years ago), Video Basket and Not Ray's were a Friday night ritual.

I enjoyed Video Basket as well. It was a tight squeeze, for sure, but it had a lot of hard-to-find titles. The owner developed some health problems; I think that led to the store's closing.

I'm sorry to hear that...he was always so nice; I was sad to see that they'd closed when I moved back into the neighborhood.

I see the owner of the defunct video basket around from time to time. He seems fine. I don't think it was a health issue.

That's great that he's well now...at the time he was ill and I remember the store had erratic hours because of it. I can't give you dates, though.

The turnaround to the bakery "Pan & Mas" was remarkably quick. Anybody have more info on what kind of stuff they will have and when they are opening?

It'll be like Blimpie's, only not as stylish.

That's some funny stuff! It does appear to be a bit of a mish mosh of styles and materials. Oh well, you know what they say - Be careful what you wish for!
