Seminar on Green Restoration and Renovation
at City Tech on Saturday, December 1, 1 to 5 p.m.

The Division of Continuing Education and the Department of Architectural Technology at New York City College of Technology are collaborating once again to present an afternoon seminar, "Anatomy of a Brownstone: Greening Your Home and Living Sustainably " Join us on Saturday, December 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Atrium Amphitheatre, 300 Jay Street, Downtown Brooklyn. Admission for the event is $35 per person and those planning to attend should register in advance by calling 718.552.1170.

Who says there’s nothing new under the sun? At this offering in the popular “Brownstone” series, leaders in green building materials, energy efficient homes and eco-smart home furnishings will show you simple, smart, affordable ways to green your house and live sustainably in New York City.

Murray Levy, AIA, United States Green Building Council education chair for New York City, and Ellen Honigstock RA, LEED AP and USGBC LEED for Homes advocate, will give an anatomy lesson on how a house works, and offer a checklist for building and living in a green house. They’ll explain how to work with your architect to choose green materials.

Rolf Grimstead, a community based developer and Sarah Beatty, CEO of Green Depot, the Brooklyn Based Green Building Materials company, have teamed up to re-build a Boerum Hill property
and create the first homes in New York to be awarded the “Health House” certification by the American Lung Association.

Pietro Callabreta, contractor, and Debra Salomon, interior designer, will share their local sources for wonderful green home products and offer a practical guide for fitting new materials into older homes.
Mark Wyman, from New York Energy $martsm Communities, will explain New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s “Home Performance with ENERGY STAR” and “Comprehensive Energy Assessment” programs and outline how NYSERDA's participating BPI Accredited Contractors use a whole-home approach to identify problems and solutions.

Judy Torres of Keyspan Energy/National Grid will give an overview of energy efficiency for the home as well as the NYC Green Cinderella program.

Paul Kerzner, director of Con Edison’s Renaissance Program, will help you pull the plug on wasted electricity and will shed light on energy efficient bulbs.

In addition, you will be able to pick up an energy saving brochure or a sample of the newest, greenest material for your home.
