Hey, anyone have any news on what's going on with KitchenBar? I hated to see it closed and now I see renovation and new signs saying "Lot 2." Anyone know what this will be? (I'm assuming some kind of restaurant/bar.)

I talked to someone from Safe Haven next door a few weeks ago. She said the people from the coffee shop down the street(on 19th? can't remember the name either) are opening an organic based restaurant. Would like to see another food option in the hood, I just hope they're reasonably priced.

Southside? Is that the coffee place? I was sorry to see KitchenBar close, but would be happy if another great restaurant replaced it.

Yep. According to what I heard, the guys from Southside bought it.
I really liked Kitchen Bar though, admittedly, the quality dipped recently, but I'm interested in seeing what the new place is like.

My neighbor just told me that it was indeed bought by the Southside Coffee people. (He also informed me that the reason KitchenBar started to not be as good was its chef left at one point and went to Eurotrip, which explains why Eurotrip is so great.) I do hope it's some kind of "organic" or healthy, or veg-friendly place. That would be wonderful! I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Meanwhile, this isn't really Greenwood Heights as much as South Slope, but I'm wondering what kind of bar/restaurant is going in the old Berkley store on Fifth up at like 15th.

Kitchenbar was, in fact, purchased by one of the folks from Southside and another party. Lot 2 will be an eclectic, market (green not stock) driven, restaurant that will have an adventurous menu as well as wine/beer list. As I don't want to steal the owners' thunder having seen the menu, but there will some tried and true favorites as well as some things that would probably push the envelope for the average restaurant patron.
That being said they're very much looking to have a comfortable neighborhood vibe and are shooting for high quality, but affordable fare.
THey are actively looking for good organic, biodynamic, and sustainable products across the board. While they love meat, they are also looking to satisfy any veg-heads (my phrase not theirs) that are hungry.
The bar at the old Berkley spot will be an English Pub, serving English Pub food. Also good news for those that follow the Premiership as they will have the games on during the weekend (so far as I can tell they haven't declared an allegience to one club over another - as long as they're not Chelsea, Tottenham, or Man U supporters I'll be there).

My veg-head partner-in-crime and I are eagerly anticipating the opening!
A friend went the other night and said food was awesome. Must get there this weekend!

Went for dinner with a friend last night. We sat at the bar and the owner (I think?) Ben, was our server. he was super friendly and asked how we knew about the place, told us the sources of the food (Union Square green market and a Long Island farm) and what changes to expect (whiskey and bourbon sippers but maybe not a full bar). We ordered glasses of red and white. The whine glasses are huge. I like that. Yum. Ben comped us a fennel salad and it was crisp and flavorful. Friend ordered the chicken and said it was perfectly cooked. I ordered the cod. It was meltingly fabulous. A bit pricy for this neighborhood, but delicious and a great option. Not sure how often I will go back though if the menu stays the same until the next season change.
On another note, all the KitchenBar art and color is gone in favor of dull grey walls. I would appreciate some art or at least a warmer wall color.
