Local chefs are opening a family friendly dine in/take out spot at 635 Vanderbilt. Their site just went live. It looks like a great addition to the neighborhood. They expect to open by June 1.

      DeBlasio's big night out.
Lgbt held a fund raiser at the Cutting Room, where he was given a Lap Dance, by what was described as an able bodied drag queen.

I hope money was the only thing raised at the event.

Over the next few days, you will start to see this flyer posted in lots of places around "Crown Heights West":

The flyers advertise a community meeting which is planned for 7 PM Tuesday, May 21st, in the synagogue on St. Johns, between Classon and Franklin.

...the one near the shuttle tracks.

This meeting is a follow-up to one which took place at a nearby school about 2 months ago, which was attended by over 200 people.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

22/F moving to Prospect Lefferts Gardens specifically near the intersection of Bedford Ave and Lenox. What is this area like? Places I should check out? Safe? Any and all insight appreciated.

      Photo: NYC Tax Dept

For decades, Nostrand Avenue in CH featured a vegetarian restaurant, known as IMHOTEP. Here is a review:
      http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/imhotep_health_and_vegan_restaurant/

      photo: whereyoueat.com

The property changed hands in late 2012, for $900k:
      http://www.point2homes.com/US/Other-Property/NY/Brooklyn/Crown-Heights/734-Nostrand-Ave/151641.html

And, soon after, IMHOTEP was closed and interior demolition has since occured.

This thread provides info on what it will become....

Crossing Atlantic Ave on Washington (going north) I was stopped by people petitioning to get the construction site turned into a pedestrian park. Anyone know what's going on there and what are your thoughts?

The completion of the new WTC is able to serve as a catalyst for emotional closure to some, and a beacon of nationalistic pride to others.

While these are understandable goals, are they real if the building takes a really long time to be filled?

      Of course!

I wrote a humorously tragic (or tragically humorous) book about the death of two partners in a row from cancer and other fun stuff like being a Missionary of Charity and having Mother Teresa herself tell my I was a crummy nun. And going to a Million Moms conference as an out queer. You know, just typical stuff like that.

Topside Press published it, we're celebrated its release on Saturday May 18th at 4 pm at the Sealy Cuyler Funeral Home, 1084 Pacific (near the C/S Franklin Stop).

More info on the book at freakofnurture.org
You can RSVP for the event and get up to the minute details at https://www.facebook.com/events/454607474611223/
