Gay/lesbian in Prospect Lefferts Gardens

My husband and I are considering a move to PLG and would like any insight on how a gay couple with a baby would be received in the neighborhood. We're currently in Park Slope and love the architecture, diversity, and proximity to the park in PLG. BUT, one of us is going to be a stay-at-home dad for awhile and I want to have a neighborhood where I feel safe (and preferably welcomed) as a gay man. I'd also love to know what people think about the services in the area... it's been a couple of years since I've been to PLG and I wasn't bowled over by the retail/restaurant options. Is this evolving over time?
