Mothers vs. Hipsters--is the divide that great?

Fresh on the heels of the NY Times going on about Brooklyn blogs (see other post) here's another article about the "divide" between being a mom or an anti-mom-type in Brooklyn.

Although it's cool that the NY Times has a lot of focus on Brooklyn, is this all media hype? Snarky posts on this board aside, is there really such a chasm between folks raising children in PS and those who (like me) do not? Is it okay to like my neighbor's kid? (Regardless if it is or not, I will choose to do so).

Is all this talk of mommy mafia, crocs and hipsters simply a Brooklyn equivalent of discussing Paris Hilton?
