Swimming in the Slope

Does anyone know of a swim club or swim team that meets in the Slope, preferrably in the north Slope? I'm an intermediate swimmer and I'm looking for a group to swim with. Thanks.

The new building at the corner of Court St & Atlantic Avenue is the new
home of the Dodge YMCA and has a pool ... all brand new.
  • Eastern Athletic doesn't have a team, just lap hours. It's kind of expensive to join.
I wonder about the Berkeley-Carroll school -- I just heard that people not affiliated with the school can buy passes to swim there.

The NYC Parks Dept city pool at 59th St on the west side (manhattan) had a swim practice with city lifeguards - they were very open about people joining them. I have not been there for a few years tho...

If you find some place, could you post it?

Doesn't Jack Rabbit on 7th Ave run swim programs? They used to meet at the Berkeley Carroll pool (President b/w 6th and 7th), but possibly now at Eastern Athletic. Anyhoo, here's t'link:

  • you have a few options. There's a masters swim program at Berkeley Carroll on weekday mornings. Catherine Samuelson is the Athletic Center coordinator - [email protected]. There are also three levels of swim classes at BC on Tuesday-Thursday that are run by Jack Rabbit. You can get info at jackrbt.com.

Eastern Athletic also has a 25 yard pool, but no classes. As mentioned previously, the new Y (25 yards) and the one on 9th St (20 yards and too warm) are also options.

  • Brooklyn Swim Center (not in Park Slope but close) http://www.urbanbaby.com/talk/posts/51379373 , has swimming group lessons.
