Fire? on 5th and St. Marks?

Just got home and a block from my building there are about 5 firetrucks, 3 ambulances and some police cars, a faint smell of smoke, but no obvious signs of anything really bad happening. In fact, people are sitting outside of Peperoncino and the Chocolate Room watching the firemen mingling with the crowd. I asked a fireman where the fire was and he said "not sure, where all going home now anyway".

Does anyone know what the deal is/was?
