Looking for a new Gyro-Please Help Anybody

sorry the temptation to create this topic was just overwhelming. but seriously, where can a guy get a good gyro around here? gyros, like chinese food, i feel, are something that it's best to eat with a recommendation, because you can get some really nasty gyros.

I don't eat gyro, but the falafel at the new place on Perk and Carlton (Sam's? BBQ and vegetarian?) is very good. Let us know if you try the gyro. They're very nice in there. An excellent lunch spot.

Thanks for the tip. I have been meaning to try Sam's since they put the sign up.

BBQ and Vegetarian's Falafel rocks. I have been ordered to stop eating it by the missus after she caught me taking the Q from Penn Station area instead of the 2/3 so I could eat that chickpea-heaven-fucking-good on the way home to GAP. I think, though, she is pissed because I said it is better than Mamoun's over on Thompson St by NYU which is her favorite. Just the falafel, not the shawarma. Nothing touches Mamoun's shawarma.

4 bucks too, can't top that, even if it means you have to stand there waiting in that tiny space like a goon while all the falafel people get their food.

Has anyone followed up on this thread and tried the gyro at Sam's? I was tehre today getting a falefel and thought about buying one but then figured that I had no basis for comparison and would, thus, be unable to give a full report. The guy who was in there with me, though, said they were great.

Actually ate at Mamoun's and the sandwich was cold, overpriced and drippy with toppings. Horrid.

There's a decent guy who sells stuff on the corner of Atlantic & Flatbush right outside of the mall. Kind of in front of the windows of the 'Men's Wearhouse' and right near that crazy corner where you might cross Flatbush to get to that fake train station entrance in the middle of it all.

He's not there all the time, but his stand is completely enclosed, very clean and he's nice as well. Serves sandwiches and platters and the Chicken Biryani is outstanding! But he's not there all the time. I think only a few days a week when he feels like it because he lives nearby and stores his cart nearby (???). Hey, that's what he told me.

I haven't been in over a year, but still, that's surprising. What time of day were you there? I think the staff is different at night, which is the only time I've been.

The gyro at Sam's BBQ and Vegetarian is a mess, but probably one of the best ones in the neighborhood. Came with what appeared to be a roasted red pepper slice inside. Almost too much meat. $4.50.

I like that place too. They get an interesting crowd there- a total cross-section of the neighborhood.
