too bad...sounds like your on the wrong side of eastern parkway...i really like this neighborhood and hardly ever encounter hasids my way..there is alot more to ch than them..oh well, see ya...
  • Um, what is wrong with Hasidic people? Sheesh.

(NOTE: This is a rhetorical question. I do not want you to answer it.)
  • Subject: Hw-what!

Um, yeah. I can't believe that a person would actually post a comment as you did re: the Hasidic Jews. Good riddens to you then! People are supposed to be able to live side by side enjoying the diversity. That is part of the beauty of Brooklyn. Would you dare make a comment saying, "gee, I think I'll move because I can't stand living around all these blacks."
    Watch your mouth :(.

If there is one thing Hasedic Jews do not enjoy, it's diversity. Give me a break!

Well, neither do the Amish or other groups that choose to live apart from others due to their religious beliefs.

What's with all the hatin' on the Jews? That is so tired.

Where is the Hasidic neighborhood in CH anyway? I'd kind of like to check it out.
  • Just walk down eastern parkway until you start seeing Signs a la "Jewish Childrens Museum"

Actually Laura I lived in Boro Park for 10 years and I don't think that it is "hating on Jews" as much as it is commenting on the Hassidic. In all the 10 years that I lived in Boro Park on a block with about 60 other families only 2 of those families ever said hello to me. NONE of the children ever played with my son.

Oh and be prepared to be stared at in the Hasidic neighborhoods.

That's true, I lived in Midwood and nobody would talk to me. I even got mugged and cut with a box cutter on the subway platform in the middle of the day, tons of hacids around and nobody offered to help me.
  • Subject: the faster the better

will be glad to see the original poster gone, with that attitude.

But also want to point one thing out -- discomfort/disinterest on the part of SOME hasidim -- certainly not all -- is with people who are secular or non-Jewish, not with people who are black. There are several black families which are part of the Lubavitch community in Crown Heights and they are regarded as no less legit as any Eastern European-originated family. And sad as the bias againt "goyim" from some Lubavitchers is, there are also many other folks there who are open-minded. And surely there are narrow-minded bigots in every community.....perhaps even in our own! (e.g. see original post). Would be unfair to paint an entire community of individuals with a single brush.
  • Subject: in defense of the cHassidium

Hasidic, Chassidic, Hassidic it all depends on who is doing the writing. I have had good & not so good experiences with this community. I have lived in the victiny in Williamsburg to the Satmar's and now Crown Heights. When my husband had a car accident, the community came out in droves to support him. I've lived in the same building with a Hassidic family. I have close relationships with members of the Crown Heights community previous to moving here. They do their own thing but they are basically good neighbors. They do need to be more careful with their driving and walking out into the street. When I say hello they are friendly back.

i grew up in williamsburg/greenpoint right in the heart of the chassidic community there... a product of a VEEEEEEry mixed marriage, its only this past chanukah that i ever wore my kippah (yamika) outside the house and thats because chanukah and christmas fell in the same day... so now i wear it more often...

the 1st time any chassidic person every said anything to me was the day i got off the 2 train on kingston & e.prkwy to go look at an apt... and i notice i get staired at only because since their community is so tight, any new face is a surprise.

as for the poster... hire me to sell your house and i'll sell ya a new house anywhere you want... deal?

    LOL!
  • I don't need you to sell my house. I am happy. You corcoran's.
  • are you another one moving to Georgetown? whats up with that?
  • Subject: not moving

I am staying right here. not moving. where did you get georgetown from? yikes.
  • Was I the only one who read the original post and thought this was just a way for an unscrupulous broker to get leads on possible houses for sale in the hood?
  • homeowner wrote: ...unscrupulous broker...
    That is so redundant!
  • Subject: quick comment

I am a "hasidic" jew....recently maried and just moved in...I spoke to my black neighbor the first time I came to CH to look at my apartment and she asked me why the [previous tenents never spoke to her, well I just said everyone is different. Diversity is a group problem, only solved by each person doing sonetihing to end it...I talk and interact with all nationalitys the same, and I would rather talk to a black than a hasid on most days and way
  • Subject: had to respond...

i know this is an old thread, but i was browsing...

at least the chassidim keep the neighborhood safer -- Not perfect, but certainly safer than other areas of CH, and that's crucial for my quality of life.

I want to not worry about violent crime, drugs, being able to walk down the street at night with no problem. But this is Brooklyn.

I live on the same side of Eastern Parkway as they do and never had a problem with them.
  • While people complain that the Chassid's may not be friendly, I find them to be a calming influence in the neighborhood. I'm not worried about getting mugged by a gang of Chassidic kids...

not worry about them mugging me :p. just afraid they'll kill my taxes though! too many kids.
  • Subject: wow....

Wow, moderators; Hasid-bashing seems to perfectly fine here.
Following this thread makes me sick to my stomach; a bunch of mostly white people complaining about everybody and everything that doesn't look, feel and smell like white, middle class. Yikes. Of my 12 years of moving around in the city, CH is BY FAR the most friendly neighborhood I've ever lived in. That despite it chriminal record. People here are WARM compared to most other places (and REAL as supposed to PS). [My dog and] I have had wonderful interactions with basically every ethnic group represented here, but it takes letting go of your defenses and realizing what you think is rude might not be to someone else.
You get stared at? Well, yes, it will take some adjusting for White people from White America to get used to what it feels to NOT be the norm; any other group in this entire country knows what it feels like to be stared at - So get over it or just move on.

    1. This thread predates the existence of mods for this board and was only recently re-bumped.
    2. At least the first four replies are telling the OP off, and two of them are from the then-global mods.

What do you want the mods to do, delete it? They won't--read the rules linked at the top of the page.
  • Subject: Re: Hw-what!

[ Thats a freaking lie, those Jews hate Black people and any people of color. th eonly color they lik eis green. they do't mind taking your green money from your black hands. they do't want you in their neighborhood at all. and look at you with hate when you walk past them. they can do what they want to you , but as soon as you retaliate then you are " anti-semetic" . I wish they would leave .
  • Wow. Way to revive a six-months-dead thread with some nastiness, Rhianna.
  • Its not only the Jews that hate black people, you'll find most groups hate black people. Even black people hate black people. So should everyone leave?
  • Merry merry MERRY christmas! "you'll find most groups hate black people?" which "groups" are those, dear guests? The Americans who have made Oprah Winfrey wealthy and who are eager to vote for Barack Obama? The generations of white slaveowners who raped so many black women that the average black American is now 20% white (and you can look that up). The Americans who are obsessed with Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan?

You must live in some other country. Because in this one, such a large percentage of the pop culture icons, sex symbols, and politicians (and note, it's a democracy) are black that they're clearly popular with lots of "groups." Except maybe not your "group?" Of course, gee--you didn't sign your name did you--and you didn't say which "group" you belonged to, did you now, darling lovely spirit of Christmas guest?

As for you, Rhianna--again--"those Jews?"--which Jews are those--the ones who helped found the Civil Rights movement? The Jews whose commitment to ending genocide helps keep the entire world on its ethical toes? The Jews who, in my experience as a multiracial person are the ONLY group (including black, whites, and pretty much everybody else) who have NEVER harassed me? The Jews who might just possibly be...just like everybody else--human?

Stop this stupid bigotry on this site. This doesn't represent Brooklyn or, frankly, America. If you're a bigot, then go elsewhere--maybe there are sites devoted to nothing but bigotry and hatred--but this is a site for people to talk about their neighborhood. It's one thing to dispute an issue that has to do with race, but these kinds of comments are something else--just bashing and bigotry. I take it seriously, because I think it represents a decay of the social order if we don't.
