GALLOP, a therapeutic horseback riding program, offers lessons at Kensington Stables located at 51 Caton Place, Brooklyn, New York.

Our mission is to provide therapeutic riding to a diverse population in New York City. Examples of riders GALLOP assists include individuals with autism. down syndrome, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic head injury, stroke, and other neurological disabilities, as well as individuals who have suffered emotional trauma, such as first responders (NYPD, NYFD, EMS), war veterans and their families.

Riders can benefit from the horse’s rhythmic gait by developing muscle tone, improving balance and reducing spasticity. The bond the riders form with their horses has been shown to motivate riders and to enhance their self-esteem and confidence..

Staffed by a riding instructor certified by NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association), advised by an experienced physical therapist and supported by a dedicated and experienced group of volunteers, the program offers a safe and supportive environment in which participants can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of good horsemanship while bonding with their horse.

GALLOP will operate its fall program on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with each session providing 45 minutes of lesson time. We plan to expand to meet demand.
