Hey Bed Stuy neighbors - I was watching the news and I heard that Bed Stuy is hosting a Bed Stuy Alive this weekend sounds like a lot of fun and great way to support and meet your neighbors.

NEIGHBORHOOD’S BEST WITH
A WEEK LONG CELEBRATION OF FOOD AND ART

TASTE AND STRUT

BROOKLYN, NY – OCTOBER --- 2007: Bring your appetite and savor the cuisine of the local restaurants; visit members of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Artists’ Association in their studios and local shops. You will experience all of this and more when you participate in the Third Annual Bed-Stuy Alive! event October 13th- October 20th. Bed-Stuy Alive! will promote the best of the Bedford-Stuyvesant community and foster pride from the many residents who reside there.

Beginning with a kick off on Thursday, October 11 at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, under the tent, Bed-Stuy Alive will hold a restaurant tasting event, open to the public. Participates will get a chance to sample some of the cuisines and pastries from the local restaurants and cafes. They will also met and chat with the Legends of the community who will be honored for their leadership role, including, Elsie Richardson, Alma Carroll, Erma Winslow, Vernelle Albury, Mary Von King, Janie Green, Madgie Ford and Ruby Brent-Ford (posthumously).

Starting on Sunday, October 14th Bed-Stuy Alive! will take the program to the restaurants and cafes; experience find dinning, great artwork, music and fun. Each night a community leader and stakeholder will be honored at a different restaurant or café. Some of this year’s honorees are Sam Pinn, Community Activist; Roger Wareham, The People’s Attorney; Brenda Fryson, Co-Founder of the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Inc.; Ulysses Kilgore, CEO Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center; Rev. Robert Waterman, Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church; Marilyn Reid, Delta Sigma Theta; and Sharonnie Perry, Community Activist.

The Taste of Bed-Stuy is in its third year. It was initiated to increase the customer base of approximately 23 participating restaurants along Fulton Street and inner blocks. The restaurants represent a rich cross-section of cultures that reflect the diversity of the neighborhood. STRUT
The Third Annual Studio Strut is sponsored by the Bedford-Stuyvesant Artists’ Association. The Strut has introduced hundreds of residents to the works of local artists, and attracted more than 500 visitors last year. This part of the event will take place on Saturday and Sunday October 13th & 14th. Visitors will be able to view art work in a variety of spaces, including studios, homes, restaurants and other businesses, and also have an opportunity to meet the artists.
