Area music (musician) store? Guitar Center? — Brooklynian

Area music (musician) store? Guitar Center?

Does anyone know of a Park Slope/ProHo music store that sells basic stuff like strings and picks? I'd really like to support a local merchant.

Also, does anyone know what the deal with that Guitar Center is in the Atlantic Terminal? ProHo to Have Mall Guitar Retailer?

Some friends of mine just opened a guitar store. Not in Prospect Heights but close. It's called Mazzotti Music.

    Thanks for the tip.

I used to go to Rumbleseat in the Slope until they closed recently. I am actually looking forward to Guitar Center opening, if only for the convenience of strings/picks/accessories.

  • the musician's general store in boerum hill is okay, everything's too expensive but it could be worse. it's on Court St at Wyckoff & Warren, i think.

i've been waiting on that Guitar Center ever since the mall opened. it appears they are finally doing something in the space (last time i noticed new drywall up and such) but it's a long way off. i too would like a local merchant for music supplies but man, when that place opens i'm gonna have a field day.
  • there is one on 7th ave and like 8th street? 6th street? on 7th ave itself, though.

you took the words right out of my mouth.
good honest peeps, doing it for themselves.
it's on 3rd ave between president and caroll.
  • can anyone recommend either of these places for repair/setup stuff? i got a new used guitar on the unbelievably cheap but it's got a few issues that need to be worked out... does anyone know if mazzotti does repair and/or setups? The place on 7th?
  • oh i see that on mazzotti's website they say that they do do repair. haha, do do. wait, no time for that now- anyone have any experience? they sound cool so i'll probably take it there no matter what (what are my other area options anyway), but if anyone has any horror stories or something let me know. based on their website and what sounds to be their MO, it doesn't seem like that type of place, so hopefully it'll go well.
  • Ed Bridge lives in park slope. He's very knowlegdable about guitars. IF you're looking for something high end - contact him.

I think it opens on December 1st. According to the links below, Korg and some U2 tribute band have events scheduled on that day.

Mazzotti has got some pretty good used & vintage gear. Decent prices too, from what I saw. Kind of a long walk from P Heights, but close enough if you've got a bike.

  • Thanks for the tips... I took it to Mazzotti... definitely a long walk, especially lugging my big fancy humidor case that's worth more than the guitar it holds, but the girls there seemed cool and knowledgable and said she'd fix it. Plus, a setup, new strings, and minor repair there cost less than just a setup at guitar center.
