I'm sorry that I missed that fascist letter in the mail that says we have to build by the laws of the unqualified (Such as yourself).
WTF, look across the river. That borough has been doing well with the integration of both large and small scale edifice.
It seems that everyone is talking crap and it manifested via Ratners Gehryville.
I welcome any development, as long as it doesn't affect our laws and constitutional rights.
When a neighborhood is developed, the results affect everyone. The 77th precinct will have to, inevitably, patrol PH more often than their lazy asses have done in the past.
Again, the suburbs welcome anti-urbanists small scale romanticists (Such as yourself)
Well, Guest, I wouldn't know anything about the suburbs being a born and bred Brooklynite, so I might have to take your word for it that it is some sort of utopia I should consider. Wanna pay for my relocation while you're doling out the advice? And my point was that there was no letter in the mail, so I was curious about how you were so sure of how people being concerned about out of control development was causing a backlash amongst local folks. And speaking of Manhattan, I frankly don't give a fuck about what they're doing across the river because I don't live there for a reason. If I wanted my view to be like this:
    image,
then I would've scraped my money together and been across the river already. I have no problems with developments in scale or even on a main thoroughfare, but yes, I will be pissed when something will be looming down on where I live in the middle of a residential street.

Afraid to look up or is it more of a medical issue with your neck (Still don't get it)
  • Candyman,
I'm still looking for an objective response as to why it bothers you and not a response that begins with the letter "I".
I will give you the benefit of the doubt if you can convince anyone, other than yourself, why this is inappropriate in a non-self referential approach.
I'll give you some objective reasons why it's appropriate:
Taxes for supporting local schools and other productive causes,
This will certainly be condominium, which at todays market value, will bring in a owner occupied party and not an investor to rent to the irresponsible,
Police presence (Developers and condo boards have a great reaction from the local precincts when they're unified).
I guess being a brooklynite, you're more nostalgic of the shit that pre-existed in these hoods twenty years ago.
I was unaware that you were missing the smell of crack and the site of it on every corner

Why do you think you can dictate the terms of the discussion when no one knows who you are and no one cares what you think?

    Correction:
You do apparently care what I think and so does he or else no one would respond.
As for my identity, who cares? Apparently that is the point from reading the above
  • I think A.G. has derailed enough threads that it's time for the admin to ban his annoying ass again.

Well, I'm amused at least. Did you know I was a man?! I've got so much to answer for...

jesus christ! you're a man? I never knew!!! time for me to do some serious soul searching.

but you know, maybe the management co for a big-assed glass building will shovel and salt the sidewalks ....:lol::lol:

Well, I'll be damned. You're right! And maybe the building can even block out the wind throwing the snow around and I won't have to almost break my neck on ice patches! That's it, level everything and build skyscrapers. I've seen the light! :D

    You're still not making sense.
Why do you think that all buildings that have a glass facade will look like the one you've admirably photographed?
Are you some sort of disgruntled Architect? There is someone posting for an Architect on the PH board
  • Re: the corner Laundromat:

Looks like they have to go back to the drawing board (literally):

Edited to fix your big long URL. TinyURL.com is your friend!. I was surprised to see how much FAR (allowable square footage) they have.
  • Quig, you broke it!

    I'll tell you why:
They were hoping to buy the air rights of a neighboring building.

    Correction, I broke it

it was all me. I broke it.

    and threw it away.

and then I broke it AGAIN!
  • quig wrote: Doh!
That's dough, and I'm making plenty of the cookie kind this holiday season.
  • Ok, maybe someone can point me to a site that shows the sale of air rights (P-shark?). How much?

I know the Meier project bought the air rights of a number of buildings on St. Johns, but I don't see it posted.

    Actually, it's "D'oh!"

    It's all about communication Quig.
I know it via small talk with my neighbors who own this property that had the potential sell. Apparently it wasn't enough to satisfy
  • I know Im a little late to this topic of things going on in Prospect Heights in regards to developers, but here is my opinion...........All change isnt good change. For someone who has lived here for my entire life (23 years.....man Im getting old!), I am pleased to see some of the changes, but not all. One change that I am glad to see is the recent influx in new businesses to the neighborhood. The downside of that are the businesses that we grew to love have vanished. Anyone remember St. Partrick's on Vanderbilt btw Park Pl. and Prospect Pl.? That store gave me cavities growing up and some good coffee once I became an adult. Four Seasons, the bodega on Vanderbiilt and Park? These places have disappeared! Also, the family aspect of the neighborhood has disappeared. There arent many families in the neighborhood anymore. I grew up with families in my buildeing and other buildings in the neighboring areas and that doesnt seem to be evident wiithin the neighborhood. $500,000 condos on Park Place????? I NEVER THOUGHT THAT WOULD HAPPPEN! Man, some of the things they found in that lot when it was just grass.........Im a guy who knows this neighborhood like that back of my hand. I LOVE my neighborhood and will continue to. I just hope that it doesnt become unrecognizeable in the future.........
  • Mr. Simon- I know what you mean. I am a lot older and moved here as an adult but I am nostalgic for the days before anyone knew or cared about P.H. It seems we were always left on our own and never got the respect Park Slope got, but it was our place. Now its very different.
