at least two people shot on carlton/dean tonight

Six or seven gunshots heard at around 7pm. Within minutes the block was closed off and between 8 and 10 cop cars arrived. There was one man down on Carlton, near Dean, but it wasn't clear whether he was (a) shot (b) shot and a suspect (c) the victim of gross delay in getting him into an ambulance or (d) all of the above. About a half hour later, two ambulances pulled away. Block is still closed off, and the word on the street is there are significant numbers of suspects being detained on Dean Street.

  • Thanks for the info. We were standing on Vanderbilt and Bergen talking when at least 12 cops and ambulances rushed by, around 7.

Wow, my comment sounds very stupid and naive. Obviously someone isn't okay...

  • My sister had just walked in her door when she heard the shots go off. I live a little further down Dean, didn't hear anything. The cops came and asked her some questions about what she heard. She says it was more than 7 shots.

With the car explosion and now gunplay can we say that the triangle of Vanderbuilt, Flatbush, and Dean is starting to resemble the Sunni Triangle more than Tribecca?

Should my wife give me sniper cover from our roof as I run for the subway?

  • Got this report at 7 pm via an e-mail from Maggie:
7:00PM: (10/21/05) I just witnessed a shooting on Carlton Avenue (between Dean & Bergen). We heard several pops, then we saw people running up Carlton (toward Flatbush) and then a man chasing another man, shooting. The guy being chased went down. Turns out the shooter was a cop. A lot of activity outside right now as well as the whole block taped off as a crime scene. Scary

I was leaving my apartment (corner of dean & carlton) when at least 12 shots went off. Saw two cars peeling down dean b/w carlton and vandy BACKWARDS at what had to be 25mph (?-fast) chasing what looked to be a kid. PAPPAPPAPAP PAPPAP. Ran back into my apartment, called 911 - but before I connected there were a ton of police cars racing down dean.

I emerged 5 minutes later. THere was what looked to be a kid down on the ground on Carlton b/w bergen and dean. NO BLOOD. I saw the cop lift up his shirt to see if there were any wounds. The kid was clearly fucked up though.

If I left my apartment 30 seconds earlier...ugh.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but a "safe way house" is usually a temorary shelter for battered women that doesn't advertise for obvious reasons.

Women--and their children if they have any--are usually taken to those places while they are trying to get their lives in order after dealing with abuse.

And virtually all of them are really non-descript. You don't want to advertise the location or run the risk having the abuser come by and start trouble.

  • It was one 16 year old kid, cops shot him because they thought he had a gun. It was a very realistic pellet gun. He had been robbing people. Just on the news.

  • The WNBC news report said that they shot at the suspect 8 times and hit him once in the leg and once in the neck.

It also turns on the suspect was involved in the shooting of a man in Borough Park; he has a record.

The best (worst?) part of the report? They recovered a switchblade, cell-phone and iPod--in addition to the pellet gun--from the suspect but they weren't clear whose property was what.

Police chase ends with shooting of iPod robbery suspect

Two lieutenants heading to a routine meeting in Brooklyn Tuesday night became involved in a harrowing chase that ended in the shooting of a teenage robbery suspect who was out on bail in a May slaying, police sources said.

The two lieutenants from the 77th Precinct, who were driving in an unmarked car to the neighboring 78th Precinct to attend a meeting on border issues, recognized the teen, Javaughn Higgins, 16, as a suspect in an iPod robbery that had just come over the radio. Higgins was already out on a bail in the stun-gun death of a Bengali immigrant during a Borough Park robbery.

  • Subject: Number of shots

I clearly heard more that 8 Shots. There were a few semi-auto bursts right on top of each other. 2-4-2? I dont think so. THere was more than one extended burst.

    What the hell, anyway.

  • The article says one cop shot 15 rounds and the other 7. They were both firing while running it seems.
