if this is true, interesting choice of location. i would've put it farther north of eastern parkway.

That is true...the owner owns Southpaw in Park Slope (maybe Soda too).....should be a great addition -
nice. when is it scheduled to open?

Why? I'd think that closer to EP would guarantee more folks stopping in on their way home from the train, no? -
yea, there's definitely more foot traffic down there, so it would make sense to put the bar there.
i guess i would put it further north on franklin because:
1. i live further north
2. it's quieter -

The owner of Soda and the co-owner of Southpaw are working together on a new bar on St. Johns Place near Franklin. They've been twice to the community board applying for a liquor license, so this is not a rumor, but an actual factual. They should be opening the place soon. Any locals near St. Johns Place and Franklin, please check it out. I believe the place is on the south side of the block bet. Franklin and Classon. -
any idea where this building will be? most of that block is residential or that parking garage. i'm kind of scared it could be the former fish shop on the corner next to the chinese place...if so my windows will be right over the bar and any loud noises that come out of it. urgh.
fingers crossed that it is a different location! or at least that is not too noisy on weeknights. -
Apparently the location is 618 St. Johns. Tuesday night is a community board meeting. This sounds good.
-
The space is on the south side of St. John's close to Franklin across from the old fish place. Its a small space next to a parking area. I guess the parking area will be the outdoor space. It could be cool especially if the guys from Soda are involved. Also, I have noticed some stuff going on in the old fish place, It looks like it's used for storage but maybe a new tenant wont be far off.
-
ok...that's not right below me but right across the street. i guess it couldn't be too much noisier than it already is. if they have burgers as good as soda's i'll be happy

it would be nice if the fish store would become a fish store again. there is really nowhere to get seafood around the neighborhood that i've found... -
it would be great to have a bar at the location
any word on when it will open? -

When I walked past this weekend, it looked like the place on Nostrand and St. Johns was closed and the counters tore out and stuff. -
The community board meeting is Thursday night
Marcus Garvey Nursing Home
810 St. Marks Avenue (corner of Brooklyn Avenue)
Thursday, February 14, 2008
7:00 PM
toly (from soda) came to the dec crow hill meeting and described the place as being:
at 620 St. Johns: a small upscale restaurant/bar/European café that will serve dinner and brunch. He says it will be a low-key establishment utilizing outdoor space in the warm months
Blue Moon Fish:grand army plaza greenmarket on saturdays for SUPER fish, get there early, they are only there 7-3
i believe they attend all year round, but if you are making a special trip you might want to call Greenmarket (212-788-7476) to check during the winter months. -

You're talking about the store on the east side of the street, the Jamaican fish place?
So far as I know, the fish place on the west side near the laundromat is still doing well. They don't have much of a selection, but the fish is very fresh. -
I received a notice that the community board meeting is tonight not Thursday.

i beilieve this is the confusion,
the issue was in front of this committee, not the full board:

Meeting Day: 2nd Tuesday of the Month
Time: 6:30 p.m. -

How was the meeting?
-
so this place isn't 95 south, which is what I've been thinking from the thread title?
so confusing (but awesome) to have a katrillion new bars/restaurants in CH. -
Subject: sorry
Did not realize there was anothern thread, so there you go...Go TOLY; YOU ARE THE MAYOR OF PROSPECT HEIGHTS!!! AND SOON CROWN HEIGHTS!! -

that's creepy. don't get me wrong - I love Toly. (and he knows who I am - ask him if you're concerned) but for reals, calling him the mayor of PH and CH? if I were him, I'd be gunning for runner-up to ratner.
in any case, he knows how to run a good bar, make a good burger and can even pull off soon dobu jigae so, in my book, Toly is a great bar owner. and if I could still stand to be around zillions of 25 year olds, I'd be in Soda on a regular basis as was my usual MO. -
Good news on the new bar. Franklin Park is (allegedly) set to open in two weeks!!! I walked by on Saturday, noticed two large men unloading picnic tables for their outside seating, & asked them when they were going to open. To which, they replied, "Soon... two weeks." That would translate into April 11th/12th.
Of course, we'll all believe it when we see it. Although, I didn't get close enough to look inside and judge if the place was really two weeks away from opening, from what I did see, that might not be an overestimation. -
Subject: new bar
It's Dakotas way here. So that's whats going in there. My daughter just moved out of that building last week to Fort Green and was wondering what they were putting in there. We couldn't figure out why the brick pillars to the driveway had a lovely new sign saying Franklin Park on it . She said she thought there had been squatters in there before.
I can't imagine how they can be open in 10 days. We looked inside and it's a bare room with no windows in place and the only thing there was a toilet.
But it would be a great location for a restaurant. -
One more place for the CRAWL!
This place is right across the street from that HOMAGE Burger place (yes, next to the fish place), the one with the good burger, herb fries, and awesome (from what I hear) veggie burger.
This will be an interesting corner. and my tattoo joint is also right there.....hmmmm, summer's starting to become visualized. -
Franklin Park is a bar you would expect to see in Williamsburg. I peaked in and it looks real nice. Almost done as far as I can tell. It is not across from Homage?? Wrong street.
-
I would be very surprised it they are open in 2 weeks. The current wait for a liquor license is on the order of 6 months and they just put in their application in Dec. Maybe they will open with food but no liquor to start.
Plan b put in their application in June of last year and it still hasn't been approved. Same for the bar going into the old Utopia/PKs space on Washington and Park. -

MY bad- you are correct. And now I'm even happier cause that's even CLOSER to my house. -

I walked passed there a few minutes ago. Gee, how can you tell it looks like some Williamsburg place? Nice sign and mailbox :? but yea, there's just that stupid toilet sitting there, and the place is a MESS! LOL- yea, NOT happening in two weeks. Only if they get the patrons to help them clean the place up! -

If you walk through the gate and towards the back you can clearly see a bar and a very well designed space. Take my word for it.
Howdy, Stranger!
