Magnolia.. revisited

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Magnolia, which is on 6th ave and 12th street is a place I had not been to in a long time. Dinner for 4 people..ordered burgers, mussels, pasta dish, baby ribs. All the food was excellent. We ordered bloody Mary's that were just outstanding. We shared an apple crisp dessert that was beautiful. The cappy was lovely.. All in all I have to stay that I loved the meal and the wait staff was terrific. The owner/ manager appraoched the table and we told him that we were so happy with the meal and he was so graciousin accepting our compliments. I know there are new places to try all the time in the Slope but this evening reminded me to put on the list some of the tried and true places that were good then and have stayed open and held to the high standards they opened with.

  • Sounds good, veets. How are the prices?

I have never had dinner there but I have had brunchs couple of times---foods were nice and serivice was decent---but last time I went there there were couple of large family (or friends) groups with many babies, who were screaming and crying whole time I was there---apparently the restaurant is very family friendly and I do not know if I will go back again for the same experience. I want to eat my eggs in peace.

We ate a Friday nite dinner at Park Slope Dinner time , around 9pm so that is why we had only adult diners to keep us company. Not a baby, kid or stroller to be seen.
  • Hmmmm...I haven't been there in many years. I don't know why...it was OK; not bad, not great. Maybe a brunch is the best way to get my toes wet again.
  • I went last night for prix fixe with a friend. She had mussles and steak, I had a crab cake and salmon. We split both desserts - lemon pound cake and tartuffo. It wasn't the most creative or breaking edge cuisine, but it was really good. And for $23, not super expensive. Plus the place is adorable and they played fantastic music. I will def be going back.
  • Fri and sat night there is live music which is consistently good.. I would describe it as Lite Jazz. And the volume is kept light too so the music adds to the good vibe rather than assaulting people eating in there. Last Fri we missed the music.. left before it started which I think might be starting around 10pm.
