That's just wrong on so many levels.

I keep hearing this kind of stuff about McCain also...
It was also at a time when Chelsea was not involved in politics like now. She may have even been in college at the time. This was during the Lewinsky era and a lot of crap was flying, but that is just plain wrong to say. It could not have been easy for her, I'm sure. Yea, and everyone always takes jabs at Janet's looks too, even though she was a public figure, it must have been tough to be judged that way.

But personal attacks like that always say more about the person making them than the person receiving them. But that is where we are today.
We can't discuss or debate anything in depth.

No wonder people want change.

Poor Chelsea's Mother attacked her daughters profession yet again suggesting hedge fund managers and investment bankers don't do any work which is exactly what Chelsea does for a living.

In 2006 Chelsea again had to indure the ridiculous when her mother suggested young people think work is a four letter word to which poor Chelsea had to tell mommy that she and her friends do work hard.

Does any of that compare to the embarrassment and humiliation dear daddy did to his daughter?

Yea, a little off topic, but that is how we roll here.
But if your point is is about hypocrisy amongst political rivals, I'd give it a definitely, maybe.

Specifically to your point, we can't start blaming parents for their child's choice of profession as proof of...what exactly? What exactly does it mean that Hillary's daughter may be in a profession that she, the mother, may not like? Does this make her a bad mother or something...?

But yes, people use similar tactics and play racial politics all the time in politics and it is tiring.

But regarding McCain, as much as I respect his service to this country, I keep hearing these weird things about him regarding his marriage(s) and womens, etc.

I like Bill Clinton. But unfortunately for the democratic side - the side that still loves Bill Clinton, they made it very clear that marital infidelity, adultery and sexual harassment of women should be no reason to dislike someone and that these are "private matters"..... I mean, he is still as popular as ever amongst democratic women at speaking engagements.

So with respect to McCain's marital issues and relationships with women, there just isn't much democratic wiggle room for some Democrats or specifically, Bill Clinton supporters. And yes, this is still an issue for Hillary as long as Bill is in the picture in her campaign.

I still think what McCain said was wrong, I just don't think marital issues and respect for women are a Clinton ( family)/ Democratic strong point to use against McCain.

Does that make sense?

1. I basically agree that most of the time, marital issues shouldn't be politically important. (I say "most of the time", because something like the whole Newt Gingrich divorcing his wife while she's dying of cancer does seem like a real character issue to me, but I am hopelessly biased, I suppose.) Marital issues didn't used to be a big deal when it came to the presidency -- look at FDR or JFK or even Bush I, about whom there were some pretty confirmable rumors.

The Republican majority in Congress during the Clinton years bears much of the responsibility for those issues being treated as if they matter to the country. I still think they aren't important, but if a Republican is now getting some attention in this arena, well, cry me a river.

2. Whatever Chelsea Clinton's relationship to her parents is -- and Lord knows, most people have complicated relationships with their parents -- the point is that, in 1998, when the Clintons were trying (admirably, I think, YMMV) very hard to keep her out of the newspapers and let her be a kid, not a political topic, McCain chose to make cheap jokes about her. Is this equivalent to starting a war for bad reasons? Of course not, but it's not rational political speech and it's a pretty shabby way to treat a kid. (Not to mention the "Hillary is a lesbian/Reno is a man" undercurrent, which is also CLASSY. No problem with powerful women there, no siree.)

If I remember correctly, she was seventeen at the time. Or close to. And McCain got blasted at the time for that one too. Rightfully so. It was a nasty thing to say.

i'd think he was an asshole regardless of his race. i'm open-minded like that.
