make-up lessons for wedding day self-beautification?

i'm getting married april 5 and i'm not really a make-up kind of gal, but i want to learn how to be. i don't want to hire someone to do my makeup just for that day because (a) i expect i'll wear way less than is usual for brides and (b) i want to learn how to do it myself for general purposes. over the years, i've tried makeovers at fancy department stores and MAC stores and stuff, but the fact that they're simultaneously making recommendations and trying to sell as much stuff as possible has made for dubious results. what i really want - i think - is like a consultation a la "what not to wear," with someone who i would be paying for the consultation and would therefore have less invested in selling me stuff i don't need.

i have absolutely no idea what the going rate for this kind of thing is, and i'm sure it will cost more than i think it should, but i guess i want to say anyway that budget is an issue and i don't need the world's highest-end makeup consultant. given that, does anyone have any recommendations?

They have makeup lessons. I can't remember how much they run. It is a really cute boutique type salon in Bensonhurst. I got my hair and makeup done there.

    Good luck with the wedding!
