Ridgewood Reservoir --- Wow! — Brooklynian

Ridgewood Reservoir --- Wow!

Look what I discovered tooling around on the net:

The city has plans to turn this old reservoir to a park. It's so awesome to have 50 acres of pristine wilderness (or even cooler, 50 acres that wilderness reclaimed) right smack between Brooklyn and Queens.

Anyone wanna go on a field trip?

MOD NOTE: I made the video big enough to see.

  • That is so cool, I can't believe it's been left alone for so long. I swear developers won't be happy until every single overgrown spot in this city is bulldozed in the name of "progress". I've lived in Brooklyn almost my whole life and I've never heard of this. I'd love to see it!
  • Well, it looks like it won't be developed anytime soon because the latest news stories I've been able to dig up is that the city plans to turn this into a park, which would make it a bit more accessible to those of us on a wilderness binge.

I felt so damn peaceful just watching the video. I think it would be way cool if a bunch of us went there on a weekend. Maybe later this spring once the leaves start growing back?[/i]
  • Awesome video --- the park definitely must be preserved!
  • The reservior will be kept as PARK land but there is an ongoing dispute as to how it will be used
    There are three abandoned basins

Some want all ballfields (active recreation)
Some want to leave it alone (wilderness) but just add trails
Some want a mixture some of each and maybe a model boat area
  • So anyone up for a field trip? Now that it's May and all.
