Something about this board
Now I realize this is a Park Slope community board, however, why must nearly 80% (that's 17/25 for the anal retentive of this board) of the front page postings be about: 1) where to buy something, 2) where to eat/patronize or not , and 3) what is opening or closing or renovating..
I operate on the corporate fringe, I'm a business person, I like money, but why the obsession with commercial enterprise on the board?
Aren't there bigger issues? Like someone being locked up for 45 hours, or pirate radio stations, or the kids I see dealing hand to hand on 6th Ave (I'm referring to drugs people), stolen bikes, knife robberies, insurance scams, and mice in my apartment (wait I think mice were covered)...
The point is if we could all stop trying to peak behind the newspapers adorning the next, best, poorly run, dry turkey burger serving, overpriced end-table hawking, stroller repair and tune up station, delightful desert and coffee slinging pretension, then maybe, maybe we could figure out what is really going on out there...
Your guess is as good mine... said the drunk with not the slightest bit of sarcasm.

I believe you're looking for the PH forum. It's just next door -- can't miss it.

If you want to discuss something else, start a thread about it. If people are interested, they will reply and a discussion will ensue. That's how message boards work.
It's funny, because on the Prospect Heights and Crown Heights boards, people have complained that all people talk about are the things you mentioned above, and that there aren't enough positive threads about local businesses and community events. -
Oh... Well, I don't read the the PH bulletin board.
But thanks. -
Subject: Another viewpoint on shopping posts
Funny, I have exactly the opposite response to those "where do I buy...?" posts. A true consumerist type would have the sense to just buy the damned thing at the first place he or she sees on the way home from work (even if that place were not in our precious 'hood). This "support your local mom-'n'-pop" store ethos gets a bit cloying. What did Mom or Pop ever do for me??? -
Go to the bedstuy board and you can talk about gunshots, racism, gentrification, robberies and muggings. Its good times.
Note the sarcasm, this isn't all thats spoken about... -
Fine fine... you all make excellent points.
I'm going back over to craigslist to sell my body for cold hard cash.
See you at the bar. -

People like to eat and buy stuff. If you live in Park Slope it is good to know what other people experience with various businesses in the neighborhood. Fortunately we do not have as much crime in Park Slope as other neighborhoods so we don't have to talk about that as much as others do.
