Instead of 300+ a month...they quoted me $611 for 6 months. FOR SIX MONTHS!!
OK now you got me checking, which I did maybe 3 years ago and nobody could touch USAA. Now GEICO is quoting me about 30% less BUT it is still going to be 700, 650 if I take the defensive driver class .

Why is your's that much less? I'm 50, married, own my home, have a FICO score over 800 and drive a 4 year old Ford Focus.
  • ^I have no idea. I asked them, they said they're "just competitive" in NJ and NY. It actually started at close to $700 but she asked me a bunch of questions (stuff about driving for work, my gpa when I graduated [which was almost 2 years ago but apparently you get a discount if you're under 25 and went to school]) plus I made my deductibles pretty high ($1k) and we just fiddled with it until it was down to $611. A defensive driving course (which apparently you can take online) will supposedly result in another 8%-12% decrease. I'm stoked, gotta get my paperwork in order and head over to the registration office next week...
