Safe or Not?: Moving to Bed Stuy Border
Hi. I have a quick question. I'm sorry if this is a repeat, but I haven't seen anything about this specific section of Bed-Stuy.
I am moving from Windsor Terrace, and found a nice apartment on Madison Street off of Bedford.
Does anyone know if this area is safe at night for a female in her twenties? I often walk home late at night because of work.
I'd just like to know what others think about the area.
Thanks much!!

The area your considering moving to is nice and besides the general warning for conscientiousness needed in any urban area, you should be good. There are still some spots in bed-stuy, and brooklyn in general, that are rougher than others, however I do not see the area you mentioned as one of them. My younger sister (in her early 20's) routinely walks around that area even late at night and has never had a problem, besides the occasional cat call.
However, its always important to remain vigilant and take basic safety precautions when out especially at higher risk times. (no exposed valuables or distracting devices i.e. ipod, cellphone). -
fyi - it's not the border of bed-stuy, you're right in it at that location. Just go over there day and night and walk around to get a feel for who's hanging out, the neighbors etc.

yes, you are IN bedstuy. Embrace it-- the area is fine. I have friends that live over there and they have the normal Brooklyn compliants-- just be smart and you'll be fine.

It's fine. I'm a 20-something female and I live in this neighborhood (Bedford & Greene). I've never had a problem or felt unsafe walking home from the train at night. Just use your common sense.

I moved to the neighborhood (Quincy St. & Bedford) several weeks ago.
I haven't had any problem so far when walking around during the day or at night. As other people said use your common sense. Don't expose your valuable belongings such as Ipod for instance.
Welcome to the neighborhood!
