Speaking of bad Signage on 9th Street
There is a thread about the horrible awning Mc Donalds has put up on 9th Street between 4th and 5th Ave.
My new pet peeve is the Dentist that is located at 272 9th street (same block in question) that has put up a sign that declares DENTIST The sign is lit 24/7. It is white background and says Dentist Boldly in blue. Below this is a "smile" sign complete with smiling teeth The teeth were offensive enough but this new sign is just over the top. I could deal with it if this were an emergency 24/7 Dental clinic... but this is just the office of another PS dentist.
This particular block on 9th street is deemed mixed usage/ commercial and residential so I am not saying the sign is illegal. It is not. But this professional person is not offering a Cash your Checks 24/7 service and the sign is in the same mode as the Check Cashing place on the corner of 9th Street and 4th Ave. My reaction ... double ech!!!!!
Wondering if anyone else shares my resigned but outright outrage on this?
When you go to work this morning if you happen to use the subway (F or R) on the corner you can't help but notice this sign as you walk on the block. Interested if you have any reaction at all.
I am doing a PHD at Columbia (I am top of my class ) on the emotional impact of signage on urban intellectuals and subsequent measureable changes in their IQ and contributions to Society ( as we know it).....(ok... I lied).... I live on the block and this sign is just offensive!!

Which dentist? Their are two not-so-great looking dentists' offices.
I thought people in Park Slope paid for aesthetics perks! With all the new tacky buildings, 9th Street looks like Steinway Street in Astoria, Queens. However, in Astoria, monthly rents for huge TWO bedrooms are around $1,500.00 vs. Park Slope, where you can rent a small ONE bedroom dump, with a fabulous view of Mc Donald's and Dunkin' Donuts, for $2,200.00 per month. -
Raw... I have the address...272 9th street.. trust me..you can't miss what sign I am talking about once you are on the block.
Howdy, Stranger!
