I think the article just said his "involvement" was as a client.

that's what I was trying to figure out from the article -- was he "involved" as a client, or as one of the legal team responsible for busting it?

ETA: Okay, that is a different article than the one I first read; it does say "client". Holy hell.
  • <sigh>

Sorry, nothing to add but utter disappointment.
  • So of course, CNN has dredged up some legal analyst who went to law school with Eliot to weigh in on how "moralistic" the governor was in school.

    Tawdry.
  • Agreed, jeffrey. I actually liked that guy. Years ago, my brother even worked on his campaign for A.G.
  • I'm disappointed...

...that this thread isn't titled Prostitution 2008: So is Eliot Spitzer finished?
  • I started to have doubts about him over the course of all these childish revenge tactics against Bruno, but figured it was just a rookie learning the ropes, and he'd be back in fine form as usual before long.

I figured that he'd pull out of his recent nosedive of covert, sleazy maneuvers setting traps for Bruno on the taxpayer dime and would instead get back to his more exemplary routine, focusing on business and letting Bruno snare himself.

    But wow.

His record of nailing big business excesses (often enabled by the Republicans) won huge ethical and moral high ground for the Dems.

Sucks to see that utterly discredited, and a potential very bright light for the party extinguished.

  • wait, why do we care?

our current president smoked crack with prostitutes in houston's fifth ward -- he's still our president. (whether you like the guy or not)

our previous mayor has had how many wives-in-the-making while still working out his divorce to his current wife?

our previous president got sued and impeached how many times over fucking women he wasn't married to?

we care? this is getting fucking old.

I neither care nor don't care, but my argument would be that there is no proof of the first that I have seen. The second and third fall more into morals areas than illegalities. Spitzer's alleged activities fall into the illegal in no uncertain terms, and he has kind of framed himself as a bit of a moral authority, making it that much worse.

    *shrug*
  • daver wrote: Spitzer's alleged activities fall into the illegal in no uncertain terms, and he has kind of framed himself as a bit of a moral authority, making it that much worse.

    Correct answer.

Seeing on the wire he is indicted. Silly fellow.

jesus christ. yet another business that should either be legit or punished more heavily. *hates stupid laws*

At least they're going after the johns, not the prostitutes.

They hardly "dredged up" Jeffrey Toobin; he's a regular legal commentator on CNN, so they probably would have him commenting on this even if he hadn't gone to law school with Spitzer. Agreed that the questions focused on how "moralistic" Spitzer was in law school were tacky, though.

So Spitzer finally released his statement, and he's not-really-but-basically admitting it and not-really-but-basically saying he's not going to resign.

Yeah. Looks like he waited until he was caught on a federal wire tap to come clean. I think people's sex lives are their own, but we are talking about some other issues here.
And I want him to apologize to me, who voted for him. This is not about his trust with his family. That was a lameass statement he just made.

And I think the correct title for this thread is
    New York's First Black Gov?
Our man David Patterson is next in line as the Deputy Gov.
    As I recall, he's a decent guy.
    This term lasts until 2010.

Unless he is quite damned certain that he is clean and the feds have no case, I really hope he doesn't decide to draw this out. He's wasted enough of our time as it is.

doesn't really matter. that's not stopping the business. but, due to work, I also spend way too much time in midtown hotel bars and see this shit constantly. at the 'high level'. it's annoying. just as annoying as seeing a bunch of suits meet up with the one guy in baggy jeans at the restaurant bar ... and only exchange envelopes.

(yes, I'm in a really pissy mood today. everything is making me mad, especially anything smug.)
  • DICKHEAD! and it's a violation of the Mann Act (aptly named)
  • interrupting work to say: the paralegals next door and I just had a moment where we thought this story would be so way cooler on so many levels if it were about clinton (the candidate) and some high priced female prostitutes in DC. unfortunately, spitzer screwing chicks is just boring.
  • alafairnadia wrote: unfortunately, spitzer screwing chicks is just boring.
not that it matters either way, but I assume prostitute in a political scandal potentially refers to either male or female. nothing reported yet about that, right?

this story would not be anymore *fun* if there was le scandalous wilde activity

That's for Republicans. If Spitzer was gay, he'd be out.

right. tell that to the citizens of nj

well, I would be more entertained by him hooking up with men. and all of it, obviously, is illegal, etc, and also kinda annoying in the whole "gosh we care about people's private lives so much" way. but if I needed to hear about a nice, ironic scandal, I'd prefer mrs. clinton and female prostitutes. at least I'd have some hope that she's experienced a bit of pleasure in the last gazillion years.
  • It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He's a self-righteous jackalope who clearly has gone out of his way to bully folks that were easy targets, and avoided the same level of scrutiny for his friends and associates.
  • I could care less about this happening to politicians in general, in fact I expect it. This stuff happens, and I would second the above shrugs of that were the case.

However, he was *supposed* to be one of the Good Guys, one of the thought leaders and lead-by-example guys, which is to say that he was supposed to be one of the guys that gets the big stuff so very right and only has minor f*ckups (being human).

An Attorney General, no less. A big one. One who only by virtue of his long, exemplary record was able to challenge such big corps for excesses and have others support him. Mister Integrity, like a modern Elliot Ness challenging the corporate Capones of our day. The only guy that had the clout to hold a firm line on corruption and issue challenges where there was concern.

He was the pride and joy of the Dems who sought justice against corporate greed at the expense of the little guy.

Not the case at all since he's been Governor (for he's somehow channeled Nixon's worst behavior), and this just seals it.

Yep, Mister goody-white-shoes himself, who damaged his position by sinking to pathetic capers and antics against Bruno, now actually found breaking the law, trashing family values and selling us all out with coke and hookers and devil worship. Okay, maybe that went a little too far. :) (would love to see Keanu play him tho)

So much for the Dem's moral and ethical wonder boy.

    Oh wait. :)

(and yes, I do lurrrvz me the hyperbole, thx)

this gives me a whole beavis and butthead "breakin' the law, breakin' the law!" moment.:lol::lol:

it's hard for me to really give a crap about spitzer partly b/c of how much money the dude has made me by investigating everyone and bringing so much legal business in. I own my home thanks to terrorists and a really bald-guy-with-something-to-prove AG.

I really hate dipshits, though. I mean, on one hand, I completely don't care on a lot of levels. on the other, I just hate that he's such an arrogant idiot.

will bloomberg run for gov next?

It appears politicians have all the fun.
  • I can't believe they get their wives to stand next to them. I'd be like "you and your wandering dick got yourselves into this mess....you can get out of it alone".
