2 more new businesses on 5th

I just noticed last night...

A bar between 19th and 20th (I think) called Euro Trip.

and what looks like a tattoo shop in the next block down.

Anyone else notice these? I kept checking around me to make sure I was walking in the right neighborhood  It's such an odd feeling to be like "when did this get here and how did I not notice it before?"

  • Has Euro Trip opened? Before the name went up the permit simply said "Middle European Restaurant," which I figured had to be a mistyped "Middle Eastern Restaurant," but the name seems to side with the former.

Have you seen a menu? What is Middle European food (besides cabbage and root vegetables, of course)?

The tattoo place is also relatively new.

And a tapas place looks to be going in next-door to the wine bar.
  • i haven't been by to see Euro Trip myself, but we could use a good place for central european food that has slightly more reliable hours than Milan's. and much as i love Milan's, the dishes can be a bit uneven.

"middle euro" food would constitute goulash (and every country has it's own version; i'm partial to czech), latkes, palacinky (like crepes), pierogis, fried pork chops.
  • Middle Europe refers to Central Europe - Austria, Germany, Poland, Czech R, etc.

I imagine that the food will me a smattering of tastes from these countries - the food in this region has influences from all the different cultures that are found there.
  • Actually, their menu is on their website http://www.eurotripbrooklyn.com/menu.html although they need to fix the font color.

It looks interesting. I read somewhere that they are open. Has anyone seen inside yet? I think I'll try to check it out this weekend.

Now we just need a few more food delivery options. I'm so burnt out on every place that delivers.
  • No flip-flops? Even the kind that cost 180 bucks on Elizabeth Street? (I just made that up, but I'm sure they exist.) No tank-tops? Does that go for girls and boys? How can it be relaxed and very casual and not allow flip-flops? Even the kind that cost 180 bucks on Elizabeth Street? (I just made that up, but I'm sure they exist.)

I'd like to try it out, especially early on a Sunday, and a couple of the menu items remind me of Munchen in the Summer. Maybe they'll open up for weekend lunch with the good weather.

    Post reviews if you go.
  • Eurotrip is a Czech restaurant, not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but...

I had some problems with their website, no prices and I had to highlight the items in order to read them. Should be opening soon, they're already taking reservations...

As for the "Tapas" place next to the wine bar, I'd be careful throwing the T-word around, it's not the delicious Spanish Tapas one is used to, it's Southwestern American Tapas. WHAT THE &%#$ IS THAT?

    www.ellisbar.com

Looking forward to both of them anyway...
  • The Ellis menu looks pretty good, just a little too much goat cheese sprinkled (spread?) around for my taste. More for a vegetarian than EuroTrip.

A purely Spanish tapas place would be fantastic, but how many patatas bravas and boquerones and tortilla can one person eat? A lot, I say. However, I've found most places are much more Madrid chic than Andalucian anyway.
  • Tried EuroTrip this weekend with a couple of friends. We all agreed the food is great. We shared a couple of the small- and mid-sized plates, so we didn't order any of the full entrees, but we really enjoyed what we had and will definitely be going back.

I thought the beer selection was small but good. We each really liked the beer we ordered. I don't need a huge selection if they have one or two choices I really like. They also have some specialty cocktails which we didn't try.

The place is really nice inside, although the dining room is a little echo-y. The bar in the front is perfect for drinks and apps at the bar, too.

Really glad to see new places opening in the 'hood.

Any one else try it out?
  • Not yet, but I checked out the menu and appreciated that they do have some veggie options.

It looks like they have a sampling of Czech fare, Austrian fare, etc. Yum!
