chuppah frame?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
wedding in 2.5 weeks. have instructions to make a chuppah frame - but does anyone have to have one, like, hanging around that they'd like to lend?

or, if you've made one and maybe have some tips...i found what appears to be the standard way of doing it, but looks like it will be a little messy indoors because it involves mixing cement to anchor the poles.

thankee.

  • Subject: way to hold the chuppah

ya need four poles. No cement. You need thing-a-majigees that will hold the corners of the tallit or other cloth to the poles. You need four human people -- honored guests -- one to hold each pole during the ceremony. No cement.

Or to make it easy, go to J. Levine Judaica or West Side Judaica in Manhattan, or Eichler's Judaica on Coney Island Avenue, and buy the chuppah poles.

    Again: no cement!
  • Yes, no cement! We just put a frame together using 2X2. We let pepole help hold it up as a honor
  • thanks! i knew being jewish didn't have to involve that much suffering! cement indeed! i know about the guests-holding-it-up bit from other people's weddings and just as general knowledge - we've already invited people - and i didn't remember there ever being cement or any of the other crazy ingredients the instructions i found recommended (PVC pipes, flowerpots, fake moss...) - but then, i also couldn't recall specifically looking at the floor near the chuppah's legs during a ceremony before, so - yeah.

    whew.
  • btw, mazel tov!
