Chances are slim you will ever see your iphone again. Still, it wouldn't hurt to call the park and see if some nice person found it.
Don't feel bad. You're not the only one:

REWARD for lost iphone! (cab)
I left my iphone in the back of a cab saturday, coming home from.... -
best is to call your phone company and have it shut off before people make crazy calls.
-
actually, I heard that turning off the phone can prevent them from locating it.
either way, call apple and ATT and see what they say. -
When you get it back or get a new one, you might consider trying this: http://www.stuffbak.com/

I can't decide if this "Stuffbak" service would actually work. My thought before buying some of these is that if someone found my phone and wanted to get it back to me, they would. (by calling ATT). But if they didn't want to, a yellow sticker would not persuade them to do so.

Try this next time:
Install tracking software, such as GadgetTrak.. When connected to a computer, the software on your stolen device sends all the robber's computer information, including username, ISP, network address and more back to the company, which can very well lead to recovery. -
I've heard a bunch of stories about people who recover their phones after getting a new one and having the carrier load their info on to the new phone. Then they get the new user's info too...
Some girl in Queens tracked her phone's new occupant through that 2nd girl's MySpace page.
The person who has the phone isn't necessarily a robber - could be someone that found (not stole) the phone and didn't think through their actions/ethics, or bought the phone, or was given it etc.
Here's the first such story that came up in Google...
Tale of a Lost Cellphone
Good luck with the search! -

Oh man! I remember when that story was on digg! I never saw the NYT story though, and didn't realize the phone had eventually been retrieved. When I saw it, the latest info is that the military policeman brother had threatened him.
