I am keeping my great neice 16 months old and her brother.....7years old next weekend. I want it to be a fun weekend as it has been a rough time for our family due to illnesses, tragedy, etc.Their parents need a break and I want the kids to have a good time. For their young ages...they have experienced some difficult times already.I dont want to keep them in the house and do crafts or the such...boring. Anyone know of any family fun entertainment centers?I drive so a trek is no problem. Or any suggestions as to where I can take them for fun? What I can do to make their weekend fun? Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

I have tickets for the circus the following weeks..Need ideas for next weekend.

  • Madd Fun out in ENY. My son's camp takes the kids there on rainy days. Its like Chucky Cheese, except its owned by a Brooklyn guy who tries to employ only neighborhood kids. Its well-maintained and gets a nice mix of kids. As an adult, you'll probably only be able to stand it for an hour or so, but the kids love it.
  • Thanks but I will have to pass on that one. Ironically enough someone recommended that establishment to my friend to host her daughters 4th birthday party. When she went to check it out....not only was it in a...how should I say...interesting location but they had metal detectors. She didnt even bother to check it out any further because any place that needs metal detectors that is suppose to be family oriented would not be on my list either but thanks for the suggestion.
  • NY Hall of Science in Queens - There is a lot to do inside, and if the weather is nice there is a pretty cool "Science" playground outside.

Staten Island Children's Museum - A lot of interactive exibits, slightly ghetto in that sometimes the exhibits are in a bit of dis-repair. That being said there's a lot to do for all ages...no food at this joint though, so pack a lunch or have somewhere to eat in mind.

A day is Prospect Park, even if a little cool weather is forcast, is good too. There is a pretty big playground at Prospect park West @ 11th Street. You can also go in the park to kick/throw a ball around, or visit the dog pond and watch the splashing animals. On the other side of the park from that playground (~20 minute walk) is the Prospect Park Zoo as well.

If you like the idea of a zoo you could always drive out to the Bronx Zoo. It's pretty much a jostle fest on weekends, but there is a ton to see.

If the weather is nice there is a really cool playground in Battery Park City in Manhattan with a great view of boats coming and going...

If I think of something else, I'll post again...
  • Thank you for your responses. We went to Chelsea Piers. Completely forgot about that place.
