Park Slope HELP!!! — Brooklynian

Park Slope HELP!!!

Hey-

I am currently in Park Slope paying $2950 for a 3BR, which is a good deal considering the apartment I am in. I am looking to move in with other people in PS, preferably by the F train at 7th ave, and to pay slightly less then my current rent. Is this even feasible? Has PS gotten that out of hand that non-brownstone apartments are over $3500? I also do not want to deal with a broker fee because I think it is absolutely ridiculous to give thousands of dollars away to a broker when the internet is suffice for finding apartments.
I searched craigslist, but I am tired of brokers lying (even in no fee posts) about a place being in park slope, when it is obviously not. If anyone knows of any apartments that will be available to move in starting in June or July, please send me some information...or advice!!!

Thanks-
fellow park sloper

  • I just rented a place with a fee which I said I would never do. The place is cheap enough that with the fee im still paying less per month than I was before and I have loads more space. Sometimes brokers have the best deals and if you live there for more than a year the rent will not go up as much as if you live in a no-broker fee apartment with inflated rent.
  • I was anti broker too- i couldn't justofy paying someone to show me an apt..

Then i gave it a shot and realized that if you get a broker who's been in the slope for decades and knows landlords personally, you end up with well-kept good sized apts that are actually in nice blocks of the slope.

I got my current apt through a broker and we're moving soon and we got that apt through a broker (different one) too. Both were good deals way below market price.

just be wary of dumb brokers..sadly, there are too many.

  • I will have a LARGE 1 bedroom railroad apartment in PRIME NORTH SLOPE available in July. Rent is around $1500.
  • Chops, why don't you look at moving in as a share? You'll have a better chance of paying less, then, since they may have been there awhile. I can't speak for much though, since I live in a two bedroom in south slope and we pay a lot each, but I fell in love with the place and gladly handed over my money to a broker.
