recommendations for frame shops?

hi all, got a beautiful print of green-wood cemetery as a gift and need to have it framed. my favorite frame shop (in cobble hill) has closed down-- what's your favorite? i'd like a place that will help me think through what will be best for the piece. usually i know what i want, but not this time.

  • there was a really thoughtful frame thread a while back extolling the virtues and vice of the various places - I don't have time to check the Search for you, but you might want to . . .
    :D
  • thanks! i'd scrolled back a few pages and didn't see anything, but the search worked perfectly and i found good info.
  • if youre into the creative diy thing. go buy molding and cut them :p. cheap hehe.
  • for a slightly less involved DIY option, american frame has nice modular frames (you buy 2 pieces the width of the piece and 2 for the height, so they fit anything) that are easy to assemble and pretty cheap.

the real deal is that they will cut you a free mat for every frame you buy -- you just give them the dimension of the image so they can cut the window to the right size. i loathe cutting mats (and i'm pretty lousy at it), so this is awesome.

we have ordered from them many times and never had a problem. the frames look great, in an understated, gallery-style way.

7th Ave Framing. 374 7th ave. Excellent work.
  • prints charming on 4th st just off of 5th ave is tremendous!
they have a real wonderful eye for detail, have impeccable taste and do extraordinary work with care and love!

they did a hand drawn print of oscar the grouch for me and it's by far the most well commented piece of art in my apartment (and i have a LOT of stuff on the walls!)
