Thinking of buying in the neighborhood.... — Brooklynian

Thinking of buying in the neighborhood....

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are thinking about buying an apartment in Ditmas Park east of the Newkirk subway and west of Ocean. The address escapes me, but it is between Newkirk and Foster and in the high teens.

We were wondering if you had any input on the neighborhood that may be helpful in our decision. (i.e. what school district, neighborhood vibe, 'night life', community involvement or volunteer opportunities, etc.)

We are currently living on the other side of the park in Crown Heights and have only been to the neighborhood two times so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Well, it's definitely safer than Prospect Heights. And there's lots of parking!
  • I definitely agree with the above poster...my husband and I recently moved to the area from Prospect Heights, and we love it. It's so much quieter, calmer and safer then PH. It has a nice family-friendly neighborhood appeal, We don't regret the move at all!
  • We are moving from PH to DP and we can't wait, but I do feel the need to say that in the two years we have lived here we haven't had any trouble or problems with PH and consider it pretty safe...mugging map notwithstanding. Seriously though, no problems for us at all.

We just cannot wait to move because we love it for a million reasons.
