Reliability of PS Bus Service?

The Girlfriend and I are considering moving out to Park Slope, and we looked at a place today on Prospect Park West and Garfield. That's quite a few blocks from the train, so we were wondering about the quality of bus service along PPW in order to make it to the 2 or 3 trains in the morning. Does anyone here have an opinions on MTA bus service along PPW?

Its not far. You walk it - takes less than 10 minutes. The bus on PPW is going the wrong direction for you anyway. You would have to walk down to 8th anyway to go the right way, and then back up again to the train.

Thanks. I actually don't mind the walk 90% of the time, but on those mornings where it's especially cold or rainy, a 10 minute walk can seem a lot longer.

Perhaps I'll just wake up early one morning, come out to PS, and see what the bus situation is.

To answer your question, the B69 is not reliable. It will lull you into a false sense of coming as per the schedule, only to disappoint you, your wife and your screaming toddler when it fails utterly to even show up for that timeslot that would have gotten you on time to the pediatrician.

The bus is great when you don't have to be somewhere on time.

The 69 bus is actually fine if you are coming from Grand Army Plaza and don't feel like walking home. it's an added pleasure to your commute and gets you home quicker. (during rush hours). Off hours it can feel like a long wait and you'd probably get home faster walking.
Going to the train in the morning it's faster to just walk unless you need the 60 to take you to 15th st F train. then just time it based on the schedule.

I second the opinion you should just walk it, and I'd even say it's shorter than 10 minutes. Keep in mind the blocks in PS are shorter than the blocks in the city.

I'm of Medicare age and with a bad knee and live on Garfield, near PPW. I've always walked to the GAP train - or to the B/Q on Flatbush which is even further.
For those times when I used a cane, I called a car service to take me to the B/Q.
But I can't imagine any adults who couldn't walk this distance. Where are you from?

I think many New Yorkers would consider that to be a short, easy walk. Are you moving here from somewhere where you are not accustomed to a walk to the train? Definitely come out at night and test the walk for yourself.

That really is very close and the bus is going the wrong way in the morning anyhow, so you'd spend far more time walking the wrong way to catch a bus and end up spending way more time in inclement weather, should that be your concern. If the weather is too bad to make it to GAP from PPW & Garfield, the walk to the bus solution will be no better. In that case you should probably be staying home or I guess you could call car service.

From PPW and Garfield you arn't that far from the subway at GAP

as for the bus, it just doesn't come that often but you can check the schedule
