COMPOST YOUR VEG @ Flatbush and Pacific
From the Park Slope Neighbors list:
Brooklyn Bears Community Garden Events This Sunday, April 27th
There are two events this Sunday, April 27th, at the Brooklyn Bears Community Garden, located at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street, that we wanted to pass along.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Garden will be kicking off acceptance of food scraps (vegetable matter only) for their new tumbler compost system. You can dispose of kitchen scraps on an ongoing basis by becoming a member of the Garden (you'll get your own key) or by dropping off scraps during regular garden open hours, Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers and weather permitting. Just store your scraps in a sturdy bag in your refrigerator or freezer between visits, and follow simple instructions posted at the garden.
Contact joncrow (at) earthlink (dot) net for more info.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, in cooperation with the North Flatbush Avenue BID, the Garden will be hosting a special Children's Earth Day event. The Gardeners will be teaching kids how to plant a garden, searching for worms in the compost, and doing arts and crafts. There'll be two face painters on hand, and lots of goodies. Children of all ages are welcome.
