ive had good luck with Atlas Auto at 544 vanderbilt (bet dean and pacific). not only did they fix my dead, old volvo, they did it with astonishing speed and economy... which is rare when it comes to overhauling volvos, heh.

i gotta highly reccommend them. the friend that reccommended them to me has taken cars to them for years, and now i know why- theyre really freaking good (and cheap)!

Have to take this opportunity to say DON'T go to Empire Auto on Empire Blvd. Had my alternator replaced there & went out within a couple months. Was under warranty but Singh charged me $200+ for labor. He said it must of been the electrical wiring connected to alternator. When he explained this to me & I was visibly upset w/ 3 kids ready for a long trip he was rude. No offer of driving us home or picking us up.

Then in just as brief a time it went out again. On the phone he said he'd honor warranty but would not clarify whether he'd charge for labor or whether he could guarantee that electrical wouldn't "go" again. In fact, he held the phone away from his ear & then came back & told me just to have my car towed to him. (My car konked out on Atlantic & I had to wait 3 hours for a tow--I towed to elsewhere).

Blow by blow of this aside, he was AMAZINGLY rude to me. Possibly because I am a woman. I told him I'd rather pay someone else than let him honor the warranty.

The AAA designation means nothing in terms of quality. The AAA guy from another garage who towed me said he'd never go to the AAA garage that employed him.

Yes, we have gone to them for many years and been resonably satisfied (this is auto repairs we are talking about)
  • let me also step in and recommend Atlas. i've been taking my car to them since i first moved into the area. they are extremely trustworthy and reasonable.
  • I've had good experiences with Holyland Auto on Union St, btwn 3rd and 4th Ave. 718-246-9695

not to seem like everything always comes back to Ratner, but i guess it does. Atlas Auto would be gone if Ratnerville comes.
  • I can recommend the Mobil service station on Flatbush at Dean (also known as SBK, I think.) In fact, they have my car now. They're friendly and their prices are reasonable. We've had good experiences with them.
  • Subject: Ratner. Again.

Not to sound like a broken record, but that Mobil will disappear too if Ratnerville goes forward. Having said that, I second the opinion, its a very good shop.
  • I just went to Atlas Auto Body thanks to the posts here and I was very happy with the service. They didn't treat me like the lame girl who knows nothing about cars (which is what I am, but...) - they explained everything very clearly and were very honest about what needed to be done to keep the car running safely. Definitely go there.
  • Subject: Tarheel Auto Repair

Tarheel Auto Repair on Albany Ave btn St. John's and Lincoln Place. Its maybe not as close to home as some of the places that others have mentioned. But, I wholly and completely trust them. Penda is GREAT!! I have been going there for years. He is consistently superb - always does a great job and always as inexpensive as possible. Takes totally pride in making everything absolutely perfect. Actually, thanks for this post, it reminded me that I want to put him on my list to bring a XMas gift to.
